Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has shared some new photos from the set of the 2017 movie. As the second movie in the sequel trilogy, The Last Jedi is divisive among Star Wars fans. It's also notable for the being the only film of the three directed by Johnson. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was helmed by J.J. Abrams, as was 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The latter film was tasked with bringing the decades-long Skywalker saga to a close. Many felt it was an unsatisfying conclusion, though future movies outside of the saga are in the works.

Some fans also thought The Rise of Skywalker undid the work done by Johnson in The Last Jedi. For example, Kelly Marie Tran's character, Rose Tico, was introduced in Johnson's film and played an important role overall. However, in The Rise of Skyalker, Rose appeared for a mere 76 seconds. Despite these issues, Johnson has remained gracious about his time as a Star Wars director, even praising The Rise of Skywalker recently. He's also long been in talks for a new trilogy, though it's unclear is anything will ever come of it.

Johnson remains fond of his time on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, taking to Twitter to share some new behind-the-scenes photos from filming. One shows the late Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia, standing with Oscar Isaac, who took on the role of Poe Dameron for the sequel trilogy. In another image, Snoke actor Andy Serkis can be seen in a comical moment. Check out Johnson's photos below:

Despite the conclusion of the Skywalker saga, Star Wars continues to make big moves regarding new content, especially on the small screen. The introduction of new streaming service Disney+ opened the door for many Star Wars TV shows, including The Mandalorian. Though that series won't be back with season 2 until later this year, Lucasfilm is also working on a Rouge One: A Star Wars Story spinoff with Diego Luna's Cassian Andor. Additionally, Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for his own series. All three are notable for being live-action, a Star Wars first.

It's always fun to see lighthearted behind-the-scenes moments, especially for big franchise films like Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The picture of Fisher is especially nice to see, considering her passing. This was the last Star Wars movie she filmed before her death, as her appearance in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was made possible through re-purposed footage. Hopefully, Johnson will continue to share photos from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, allowing fans to experience the film all over again.
