The cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi will join their director Rian Johnson on Jimmy Kimmel Live this Friday, December 1. As hard as it is to believe, the latest chapter in the Skywalker saga premieres in theaters in just a couple of weeks (as of this writing), meaning promotion for the film is in full effect. Lucasfilm has flooded the Internet with a bevy of television spots in the past few weeks, teasing exciting plot developments with morsels of new footage. And as is the case with any massive blockbuster, the stars and crew have been making the rounds on their press tour, visiting various countries around the world, revealing tidbits like the movie's runtime.
Now, the time has come for those behind Star Wars 8 to travel back to America, and Disney is smartly using the tried and true strategy of corporate synergy to give their holiday blockbuster one final push. After using the Mouse House's own Monday Night Football as a launching pad for the final theatrical trailer, ABC is getting in on the fun with their famous late night talk show.
The schedule for this week's shows of Jimmy Kimmel Live has been posted online, and there it's stated December 1 sees Johnson and a majority of the principal cast visit. Among the actors are Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Laura Dern, Andy Serkis, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, and Domhnall Gleeson. Star Wars is the only thing on the docket for that night, so fans will want to tune in.
Granted, this appearance will most likely be for laughs, but there is a chance there are some revelations of note. When J.J. Abrams did his spot on Kimmel in the build-up to The Force Awakens, he shared the film's first spoken word and brought a short clip of Rey and Finn on the run from the First Order. It's reasonable to believe, then, that Lucasfilm has something similar planned for Last Jedi and we will get an additional look at the finished product to further excite moviegoers for its impending release. Obviously, there won't be any spoilers, though it would be nice if this went beyond the traditional fluff quotes.
One of the biggest takeaways from the cast's 2015 visit was their chemistry and camaraderie, which was our first tease that the new group would gel with one another. It should be more of the same this time around, especially with the likes of Ridley, Boyega, and Isaac already Star Wars pros. We'll get a chance to see Dern and Tran, two characters who have been downplayed in marketing, interact with their co-stars, so hopefully their trip to Kimmel goes over well and makes fans even more enthused for what Johnson and company have in store.
