Star Wars: The Last Jedi Blu-ray Release Date Possibly Revealed

Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi is rumored to release on Blu-ray and DVD on March 27, 2018. The highly-anticipated second installment in Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy hit theaters in mid-December 2017 and continued the story that left off with J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. The film also took bold risks that laid the foundation for the future of the franchise as well as Abrams' upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX, due out in 2019.

The Last Jedi is currently in its fourth weekend of release, and it's expected to be finally dethroned at the domestic box office by Jake Kasdan's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Adam Robitel's Insidious: The Last Key come Monday - but that doesn't mean the film isn't still raking in hefty sums at the worldwide box office. Episode VIII already crossed the billion-dollar mark globally in addition to becoming the highest-grossing movie of 2017, thus passing Bill Condon's Beauty and the Beast. But now that the film's box office gross is starting to taper off, it's time to start looking forward to its eventual home entertainment release, which is now rumored to be happening closer to the end of March.

A new report from The Digital Bits says Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi will release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K UHD on Tuesday, March 27. The release date hasn't been confirmed as of yet, but it roughly falls in-line with the home entertainment releases for The Force Awakens (April 5) and Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (April 4), both of which released on the same weekend as The Last Jedi in December of their respective years.

While it makes sense for The Last Jedi to hit home video at the end of March, it's possible that the March release date may actually be for the film's digital HD release. After all, The Force Awakens debuted on digital HD on April 1 in 2016 with Rogue One hitting digital HD on March 24 in 2017. In either case, Star Wars fans may have their first opportunity to own The Last Jedi come the end of March, which will reportedly include up to 15 minutes of additional footage that was removed from the film's original 3-hour assembly cut.

For the time being, Star Wars fans can see The Last Jedi again in theaters as well as look forward to Abrams' Episode IX, the presumed final installment in the Skywalker saga as well as Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy.
