A notable gaming insider hints that a Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic remake is coming and that Aspyr Media might be involved with its development. Rumors of a long-awaited reimagining of BioWare’s classic Star Wars RPG started resurfacing last week, though it is currently believed that the Mass Effect developer won’t be working on it.

Released in 2003 and set a good 4,000 years before the events of the Star Wars movies, the original Knights Of The Old Republic showed an entirely different era of the beloved Galaxy Far, Far Away, It quickly became regarded as one of the greatest Star Wars games ever made thanks to its branching story paths and memorable characters, like the fallen Dark Lord of the Sith-turned-unlikely hero Revan. Though the events of the original KOTOR have not yet been made official canon by Disney in their entirety, elements of KOTOR have slowly made their way into recent media like Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker and The Mandalorian - which makes the rumors of an upcoming reboot all the more enticing for players who fondly remember the groundbreaking original.

According to GamesRadar, Bloomberg journalist and credible video game news leaker Jason Schreier recently teased that the rumored Knights Of The Old Republic game is being developed by Aspyr Media, based on recent comments from the studio about working on “a project based on an existing IP” and its recent acquisition by the video game investment firm Embracer Group. Of course, Schreier's statements are pure speculation at this point, but it is worth noting that he has correctly predicted things like the upcoming Mass Effect Legendary Edition in the past, and Aspyr recently hired several former Bioware employees about a week ago.

Aspyr is no stranger to Star Wars games either, having handled the mobile phone ports of both the original KOTOR and its 2004 sequel, in addition to the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch release of 2002’s Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Aside from remasters and mobile releases, Aspyr is known largely for porting games to computers, including a PC release of the 2008 hit Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Macintosh ports of countless other games set in the iconic sci-fi epic setting.

Given its long history with the franchise and the fact that several of the talented minds that brought the original game to life are now under its umbrella, Aspyr seems like an ideal choice to reimagine Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic for a new generation of gaming should the rumors of BioWare not working on the supposed reboot be true. Of course, that depends on whether or not the project is even in the works at all, but given the word of noted industry insiders like Jason Schreier it seems all the more likely with each new development.
