UPDATE 06/23/22: Aspyr has offered a workaround for the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 bug. Those experiencing the glitch can find a resolution here. Original story as follows.

The recently-released Nintendo Switch port of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords cannot be beaten due to a game-breaking glitch. Obsidian Entertainment's 2004 title is a sequel to Bioware's 2003 sci-fi RPG, with both titles taking players to a galaxy far, far away during a bygone era. The Nintendo Switch release of KOTOR 2 launched on June 8, but sadly the port is totally unbeatable in its current state.

Set five years after the first game, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords follows a customized player character called the Exile as they explore the galaxy and reconnect with the Force. The game borrows many elements from its predecessor, from combat mechanics to returning non-player characters, but KOTOR 2 also managed to expand upon the first game in several ways. Throughout their quest the Exile encounters new squadmates, like mentor Kreia and droid smuggler G0-T0, while visiting new planets like Onderon and Malachor V. Developer Aspyr recently ported KOTOR 2 to Nintendo Switch, following their Nintendo Switch release of KOTOR last year, but sadly the new version contains a game-breaking glitch.

As reported by Kotaku, Nintendo Switch port developer Aspyr (via Twitter) has confirmed that KOTOR 2 has a bug that stops players from beating it. Webdev and Twitter user Daniel Moore recently brought the issue to Aspyr's attention, with the developer subsequently confirming that it is aware of the critical issue and is working to deliver a patch to fix it. This game-breaking glitch apparently crashes the game when players visit the planet of Onderon, which triggers a cutscene called "Basilisk Crash." Unfortunately this jungle planet is visited about halfway through Knights of the Old Republic 2, so Nintendo Switch players are unable to access the entire second half of the sci-fi adventure.

While Aspyr must now work to make KOTOR 2 playable on Switch, an upcoming Star Wars: KOTOR remake on PS5 will completely rebuild the original intergalactic RPG for modern hardware. Also developed by Aspyr, the project will reportedly strive to maintain the integrity of the original version's story and characters while also adding new gameplay features and overhauled graphics. While a short teaser trailer featuring Darth Revan's iconic mask has been shown, Aspyr has yet to reveal a release date or gameplay showcase for the upcoming KOTOR remake.

Nintendo Switch players recently got the chance to experience Knights of the Old Republic 2, but unfortunately a game-breaking bug stops them from actually finishing the game. Visiting Onderon halfway into the Exile's quest will crash the game, but Aspyr is reportedly working on a quick fix for the problem. Until then, Nintendo Switch users can only experience the first few hours of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The Sith Lords.
