Felicity Jones is interested in playing Jyn Erso again in a future Star Wars project, and here's how she'd want to see her return. Jones joined the galaxy far, far away in 2016 as she starred in the first Star Wars movie spinoff, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The film was set right before A New Hope and showed how the Rebellion steals the Death Star plans and the heroic sacrifices it took to achieve this goal.

This is where audiences first met Jyn Erso, a natural leader and daughter of Galen Erso - the man who designed a fatal flaw in the Death Star. After she reluctantly agreed to help the Rebels, Jyn led the "Rogue One" group and played an instrumental role in the Empire's eventual defeat. However, Jyn never got to see this victory as she and the rest of her team died at the end of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. She was on the beaches of Scarif when the Death Star attacked it and seemingly died from the attack alongside Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). Despite this ending, Jones wants to do more.

In a recent interview with THR, Jones was asked about a possible return as Jyn Erso in a future Star Wars project. It is well known that Disney and Lucasfilm hold a contract option on Jones that can be used to bring her back as Jyn. When she was asked about doing a sequel to Rogue One, Jones joked that reincarnation could be possible in Star Wars before saying, "I feel there’s unfinished business for Jyn, for sure." The actress even has a specific idea in mind for how Jyn should return:

I think it would be fascinating to see her getting older and wiser and fighting the dark forces in the universe with which there are many it seems.

Jyn Erso stands next to a grid of green lights in Star Wars Rogue One

Jones' proposed return for Jyn Erso would certainly be interesting, mostly because it would mean that she survived Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. There are no shortage of fans of the movie and Jones' portrayal of Jyn, but this reveal could split fans. As great as it could be to tell more stories with Jyn Erso, her survival could eliminate some of the emotional weight of Rogue One's finale moving forward.

If Jones really does want to play Jyn Erso again, her best bet might be in a Disney+ series. Lucasfilm is already doing a Rogue One prequel show for Cassian Andor and K-2SO. It wouldn't make sense for Jyn to appear in that show since they never met each other before Rogue One, but that doesn't mean Jyn can't star in a show of her own. There is a five-year window before Rogue One where Jyn is on her own after Saw Gerrera abandoned her that could be the basis for a Jyn Erso solo Disney+ series, even though some stories during this time have already been told in other canon materials. She could even be featured in a Solo sequel or spinoff series or any other show that pre-dates the original trilogy. There are plenty of options for more Jyn Erso stories in Star Wars; it is simply a matter of the studios figuring out the best path and making it happen.
