The Star Wars franchise is once again visiting the age of the Republic, this time in the animated anthology series, Tales of the Jedi, which follows several notable Jedi as they struggle to discern what is really means to be a part of the Force-wielding orders of mystics.

While the Jedi Council often set rules for their fellow Force-wielders to follow based on the Code, many Jedi Knights preferred to follow their own rules. Certain Jedi even became known for their unorthodox methods as a result of constantly disobeying the council's decrees.

Count Dooku

Tales of the jedi Count Dooku Backstory

Count Dooku is one character who features heavily in Tales of the Jedi. Infamous for betraying the Jedi Order and serving Darth Sidious during the Clone Wars, Dooku is finally shown as he begins to question the actions of the Jedi and their High Council.

Dooku is shown to have a deep mistrust for the Council, often disobeying their direct orders behind their back. He even seems to struggle with innate Jedi policies, using the Force choke ability, which is forbidden among the Order. His constant struggle between the Light and Dark Side makes it no surprise that Dooku would eventually become a Sith Lord.

Sifo-Dyas

Sifo-Dyas bound by energy in The Clone Wars.

Master Sifo-Dyas is an intriguing entry to Star Wars lore. The Jedi master died sometime before the events of Attack of the Clones, but evidently set to work with the Kaminoans to build an army of Clone Troopers, having sensed a threat in the near future.

Though Sifo-Dyas appears to have acted with pure motives, he nevertheless broke countless Jedi rules to execute his plan. Merely building an army is unusual for a Jedi, but Sifo-Dyas specifically disobeyed the Jedi Order's wishes to do so, having been denied his motion to do so by the council.

Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn was a Jedi Master who once trained under Count Dooku. He and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, play a major role during the events of The Phantom Menace, as the hidden threat of a rising Sith Lord is uncovered.

Though Qui-Gon's actions were generally wiser than those of his master, he often disregarded the council's wishes, especially when it came to the decision to train Anakin Skywalker, which the council was against. Obi-Wan even argued with his master about his disregard for the rules, stating that Qui-Gon himself could be on the council if only he listened to them more often.

Anakin Skywalker

Anakin Skywalker was one of the most powerful Jedi to live, believed by many to be the Chosen One. Despite being trained by Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi who generally played by the book, Anakin took after Qui-Gon Jinn in his refusal to obey the rules of the Jedi Order.

During the Clone Wars, Anakin frequently broke Jedi rules but rarely faced punishment due to his effectiveness on the battlefield. At several points, Anakin even committed what would be considered war crimes, setting the stage for his dark turn in Revenge of the Sith.

Pong Krell

Pong Krell

Pong Krell was a Jedi Master that played a prominent role in the "Umbara" story arc in the fifth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Krell fills in for Anakin Skywalker as the general over the 501st Legion during their raid of Umbara, quickly establishing his hatred for the Clones throughout their mission.

It is eventually revealed that Krell had betrayed the Jedi Order, purposely leading his troops into battles where there would be heavy casualties. His treachery was punished by the Clones, who arrested and eventually executed the rogue Jedi before he could do further damage to the Republic.

Ahsoka Tano

Ahsoka Tano was the Padawan of Anakin Skywalker who also features heavily in the first season of Tales of the Jedi. Because of her master's leniency with following the rules of the Jedi Order, Ahsoka adopted a similar method of going about her business, often proving to be a headache for her superiors.

Though Ahsoka didn't always act as rashly as her master, she was known for playing by her own book rather than the council's. Ultimately, she would even become so disconnected from the council's actions that she would leave the Jedi Order, ultimately making her one of the few survivors of Order 66.

Quinlan Vos

Quinlan Vos joins the Dark Side in Star Wars comics.

Quinlan Vos was a Jedi Master during the latter years of the Republic Era, who appears in The Clone Wars and is mentioned as a survivor of Order 66 in Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was known for being impulsive and nontraditional, often earning him the title of the "maverick Jedi."

Though Quinlan Vos had the best of intentions regarding his breaking the council's rules, he did struggle with the temptations of the Dark Side. During his frequent interactions with the former Sith assassin Asajj Ventress, Vos temporarily opened himself up to the Dark Side, briefly abandoning his Jedi beliefs.

Eeth Koth

Eeth Koth and Battle of Geonosis

Eeth Koth was a member of the Jedi Council at the onset of the Clone Wars, who served as one of the Republic's most effective generals. He is perhaps best remembered for his capture at the hands of General Grievous in an episode of The Clone Wars.

Though Eeth Koth was indeed a member of the Jedi Council himself, he did not necessarily follow the Order's guidelines. In fact, under mysterious and obscure circumstances, the Council even terminated his membership among their ranks, resulting in Koth's departure from the Jedi Order sometime before the events of Revenge of the Sith, with his seat being given to fellow Jedi Master Agen Kolar.

Ezra Bridger

Ezra Bridger in Star Wars Rebels finale

Ezra Bridger is a Jedi who trained after the fall of the Jedi Order. Learning the ways of the Force from Kanan Jarrus, Ezra had little knowledge or even awareness of the High Council, which had been completely wiped out by the time he had discovered his abilities.

Besides his lack of guidance from the council, Ezra also struggled to follow his own master's decisions. Ezra often disobeyed Kanan, even using a Sith Holocron to expand his knowledge of the Force. While he often strayed, Ezra thankfully settled in the Light Side of the Force, becoming a true hero by the end of Star Wars: Rebels.

Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker single-handedly resurrected the Jedi Order, bringing about the downfall of the Galactic Empire and establishing a new temple to train his pupils. While his order would crumble in much the same way that the original Jedi did, Luke was nevertheless one of the more distinguished Jedi Masters to ever exist.

Though Luke did learn lessons from those who came before him, he also saw the importance of building a new system. While little has been seen of Luke's Jedi Order, it is implied that he attempted to learn from the mistakes of those that had fallen decades ago.
