The reveal trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has left fans with a couple of questions, such as who the character in the Bacta tank is. Bacta is a commonly used medical substance in Star Wars that has been featured in films, television shows, video games, and more. The substance is gelatinous and has incredible medical properties that have been used to regrow tissue, nerves, skin, and muscles. Throughout the franchise at large, Bacta tanks are often used regardless of whether the injuries to any character are life-threatening or not.

The trailer for Jedi: Survivor has teased a new character. It sees Cal Kestis, the protagonist of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - and his sidekick BD-1 - looking into a Bacta tank with a figure sustained in the medical compound. Before understanding who the character could be, it's important to notice why they're in the tank in the first place. An overhead shot of the mysterious figure sustained in Bacta is shown with their hair spread out through the material, and one arm hanging limp in front of their body. Specifically, the left is clearly shown with all of its markings, but the character's right arm is noticeably missing. Similar to Darth Vader's injuries and his need for Bacta, it's possible his new character lost their right arm and is using the tank to heal the wound.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's place on the timeline is some 10 years after Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, which saw Anakin Skywalker succumb to the dark side and lose his limbs in a duel against his former master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. While it isn't uncommon for characters to be missing a limb in Star Wars, no character, other than Darth Vader, immediately comes to mind during this time who would fit this description. It can't be Darth Vader in the tank because the character clearly has a full head of hair, something that Vader lost after his battle with Obi-Wan on Mustafar. Some fan theories have speculated that the character in the Bacta tank is Starkiller, Vader's apprentice from the Legends Star Wars: The Force Unleashed series. While it's possible that Starkiller is the mysterious figure, the identity of the character currently remains unconfirmed.

The Jedi: Survivor Trailer Has A Dark Side User In The Bacta Tank

Jedi: Survivor will be darker than Fallen Order, and that information may be enough to give some context to the trailer. In the trailer, Cal is seen fighting a dark side user with a red lightsaber who blocks multiple overhead attacks from Cal while only holding up their lightsaber with their left hand. In an overwhelming counter-attack, the hooded figure swings their lightsaber hard enough to knock Cal onto the ground and disarm him at the same time. They accomplish this using only their left hand, and nowhere in the trailer is there any indication that the mysterious character even has a right arm. Despite Cal being on the defense in this scene and looking at the character in the Bacta calmly in another, it's possible both characters are one and the same.

The character's obscured face in the Bacta tank makes it difficult to identify them, which could also mean that they're a new figure altogether. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order introduced new characters to the franchise with their own stories and origins, and, for now, it appears that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is going to continue along this path. Whether it's the fan-favorite Starkiller or a new character is unclear, but more answers should hopefully arrive as the game's release date nears.
