Ahead of the upcoming release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in March, Redditors have already been discussing changes they hope the game makes to its predecessor. With its bold, action-adventure gameplay and thrilling tale of Padawan Cal Kestis and his attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order in the wake of Order 66, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a massive success that proved Star Wars video games could still be as ambitious as the movies.

Fallen Order had its drawbacks, though, including gameplay and technical issues that haunted its release. Given Respawn Entertainment will return for the sequel and its track record for amazing sequels in the form of the critically-acclaimed Titanfall 2, there's little reason not to expect something special. From a longer campaign to livelier locations with more NPCs, Reddit has tons of ideas for how they hope Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will improve on its predecessor.

Jedi: Survivor Should Have Better Map Design

As it seems certain Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor in being almost a Soulslike-style game albeit without the difficulty, there's one element where Redditor SleepyDerp thinks it has to improve. They hope for "better map design" because it sometimes "took longer to get places than it took to kill everyone" in Fallen Order.

Exploration and re-treading areas where the player has already been are both hugely important parts of Soulslike games and that makes good map design of crucial importance. The player should be rewarded for going off the beaten path, but having intuitive routes to follow would make navigating a lot easier and give the player more time to dedicate to the fun stuff like taking down enemies.

Jedi: Survivor Should Have Less Climbing

Climbing on machinery in Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's trailer revealed some stunning locations and it wouldn't be a proper sequel to Fallen Order if it didn't include plenty of ways to traverse them but there's one traversal method that Redditors like lKenpachi hope it will rely on a little less. Their hope for Survivor is that "it's not another climbing simulation" like Fallen Order sometimes felt like.

Though it's partly a consequence of the sheer scale of the locations that appear in the game, what makes climbing particularly tedious compared to other ways of getting around is that it's slower and makes it harder to enjoy the game's amazing graphics. With Star Wars Jedi: Survivor set to be an upgrade to Fallen Order when it comes to visuals, it would be a lot easier to appreciate them when getting to higher points isn't so boring.

Jedi: Survivor Should Be Longer

Given it's one of the most anticipated games of 2023, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor ought to offer a sizable campaign, and that means there's one significant change it needs to make over Fallen Order. Redditor ranga26 put it simply when they say the sequel needs to be "longer than Fallen Order. Way longer."

Fallen Order had a fantastic story and the gameplay mechanics provided tons of fun, but having it come to an end at around just 20 hours in remains one of the most disappointing parts. Fallen Order's commercial success has proved that gamers have a real appetite for this kind of Star Wars single-player adventure, so there's no reason for them not to create a bigger, longer, and more expansive campaign.

Jedi: Survivor Should Have City Locations

With the little information that's been released so far, there's still a lot that's unknown about the sequel, but Jedi: Survivor's planets are already an upgrade compared to Fallen Order. That's good news for fans like Redditor Dazzler1882 who want "more city areas to explore" because "going through tombs" starts to get old after a while.

One of the biggest criticisms leveled at Fallen Order was about how much it relied on exploring uninhabited areas like tombs that understandably feel a bit lifeless after a while. Luckily, that means it's something that Jedi: Survivor has a massive opportunity to improve simply by adding some livelier areas like cities. That extra location variety would go a long way to keeping the player engaged.

Jedi: Survivor Should Add Fast Travel To The Ship

Exploring an area, taking out the enemies, and uncovering its secrets are some of the best parts of Fallen Order, but going back through the same area to return to the ship is less appealing. One Redditor comments that they "just hope we get a fast travel to ship option this time" to deal with this.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's new enemies are already shaping up to be a fun prospect, but having to fight them all over again while returning to the ship could still end up being tedious. That's why an easy change Respawn Entertainment could make in order to win over fans would be to add a fast-travel option for the ship itself, as it would cut out the repetitive part of missions without affecting the fun parts.

Jedi: Survivor Should Have A More Polished Release

If Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is to be a true success story for EA and Respawn, it needs to deal with an issue that's haunted all too many big video game releases in recent years. Though it's not a flashy change that would draw much attention, Redditor MrFoxManBoy simply hopes the sequel will be "more stable, less buggy than the first."

Bugs and technical issues were an issue that marred the release of Jedi: Fallen Order and it's something fans don't want to see repeated. Luckily, there are some reasons to be cautiously optimistic such as the fact Star Wars: Jedi Survivor will be a new-gen exclusive meaning they aren't attempting to port the game to older consoles.

Jedi: Survivor Should Avoid Spider Enemies

Cal Kestis strikes down a dismembered Imperial sentry droid with his lightsaber in the reveal trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

If Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is to fix some of the annoying problems with Fallen Order, then improving the enemy design throughout the game is something crucial they must do. For Redditor lidolifeguard, removing the "spider enemies" would be the best place to start, as it's top of their wishlist for the sequel.

The Bane Back Spiders might have made for one the most distinctive parts of Fallen Order's section on Dathomir, but that wasn't always a good thing as the poisonous venom they spit at the player and the acid they leave behind after death are both rough to deal with. If Jedi: Survivor leans more toward battle droid-type enemies as the trailer suggests, it will be a blessing for arachnophobic fans.

Jedi: Survivor Should Keep The Gameplay Simple

It would be natural for a sequel like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to add even more tools and abilities to Cal's considerable weapons list in Fallen Order, but Redditor Jurgepoo thinks they should actually be careful not to go down this route. They hope that "they don't clutter up the gameplay with too many tools, combos, and abilities."

Combat in Fallen Order was one of its strengths and its intuitive nature meant that encounters with enemies could be ridiculously satisfying. If Jedi: Survivor starts adding tons of extra features and tools to keep track of, it would only detract from what makes the gameplay compelling in the first place. That's why a lighter touch might be preferable when it comes to Jedi: Survivor's combat.

Jedi: Survivor Should Tighten Up The Controls

A screenshot of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's gameplay trailer, with Cal having just sliced through the legs of a Commando Droid with his lightsaber.

It's natural for fans to be more interested in the story and major gameplay details with a massive sequel like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but that doesn't mean smaller details won't be just as crucial to success. Jedi: Fallen Order wasn't the most difficult Star Wars game, but Redditor lake-pond points out that the controls could be "really clunky and obnoxious to use."

Tt's a subjective matter, but even the biggest fans of Fallen Order would be forced to admit that the combat could be improved by having slightly more responsive controls. At its core, the combat mechanics in Fallen Order were intuitive and fun to use so Jedi: Survivor wouldn't have to change much to take it to the next level.

Jedi: Survivor Should Have More NPCs

If Star Wars: Jedi Survivor is to surpass Fallen Order as a memorable Star Wars experience then adding in new, distinctive side characters would be one way to go about it. Redditor Shriketino is one of many fans that want to see the locations in the sequel "have more NPCs" than its predecessor.

Fallen Order made tons of great additions to Star Wars canon, but not much of its story or lore came through NPCs, and it's missing a trick as a result. If Star Wars Jedi: Survivor does feature livelier locations than Fallen Order, then one simple way to achieve this is by having more NPCs and giving them interesting backstories to make them worth talking to.
