Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s most popular lightsaber color may coincidentally be foreshadowing Cal Kestis’ fate in the upcoming games developed by Respawn Entertainment. The new game, a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, opens up a series of new customization options for players to choose from. With them, it is possible to drastically alter Cal’s appearance in the game, from his physical attributes to his equipment – even his fighting stance can be modified according to personal preferences. Among them, one of the possible customization options is the ability to choose the color of his lightsaber (or lightsabers, depending on the stance that players opt for).

There are a total of 11 lightsaber colors in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and, while players can ultimately choose whichever they prefer, the most popular one may have a meaning hidden behind the aesthetic. In the movies, the colors tend to represent different things, while the games often allow players to choose whatever they like simply for customization purposes. This is also true in Jedi: Survivor, but there is an astonishing coincidence between the most popular one, what it usually means in Star Wars canon, and how Cal’s journey into the next games may develop.

According to a post by publisher Electronic Arts’ official Star Wars account on Twitter, the most popular lightsaber color in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is white. The company shared many different gameplay statistics, nearly a month after the title’s release. The most popular lightsaber stance in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, for instance, is in EA’s original post, along with the most popular hair and beard options for Cal Kestis. The percentage of other smaller details was also shared, but the main choice of lightsaber color is the most intriguing among all the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor stats.

What The White Lightsaber Could Mean In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

The white lightsaber color in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor could have an implicit meaning that foreshadows Cal's fate in the upcoming games. While the color is merely an option for players, this coincidence also seems to point to where the hero is headed in the future. According to Star Wars Rebels’ co-creator Dave Filoni in and episode of Rebels Recon, the white lightsabers that Ahsoka Tano uses are a reflection of the path she chose: neither Jedi nor Sith. She can easily be considered a Gray Jedi, for that matter. In the Clone Wars series, Ahsoka left behind the Jedi Order in an arc that portrays the middle ground between good and evil.

The animated series Rebels does not have a direct connection to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but much of the lore and some of the characters across all media is shared. There are other indications that Cal Kestis may be headed down the path of the Gray Jedi rather than the traditional one. With his attempts to fight back against the Empire’s dictatorship, Cal has seen himself in situations in which he does not comply with the traditional teachings. The betrayal of his companion Bode sheds light on the fact that not everything under the Empire’s rule is completely good or evil.

While Bode’s betrayal is a villainous act in itself, the reasoning that led to his decision is not at all evil. Risking it all to protect a beloved person is a selfless act, and how it is seen is debatable. Another indication of Cal Kestis’ fate after Star Wars Jedi: Survivor aside from the coincidental choice of white as the most popular lightsaber color is the fact that he is allowing himself to get involved in a romantic relationship. The traditional Jedi Order strictly forbids this type of involvement, as it can lead to the dark side.

It is, in part, what prompts Anakin Skywalker’s descent into the darkness, only to be reborn as Darth Vader after Padmé Amidala’s passing. Although it is uncertain exactly how the relationship between Cal and Merrin will evolve, it will likely have some sort of impact on Cal Kestis’ fate following the events of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, either for good or bad. He already showed himself somewhat content that the Jedi Order’s old rules do not apply to what he envisions for the new Jedi that fight against the Empire, which is yet another indication that he is deviating from the traditional teachings and leaning more into the middle ground.

How Cal Kestis Can Evolve Following Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

This middle ground is exactly where the Gray Jedi lie. This group of Force-sensitive warriors is not evil per se, but they are ready to commit evil deeds and defy the traditional Jedi Order with the goal of achieving the greater good for all. Ahsoka is one such Gray Jedi, even if she does not proclaim it. She is unaffiliated with the Jedi and the Sith and operates as an independent Force-sensitive Rebel leader. It is possible that Cal Kestis’ fate after Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is to become a Gray Jedi. Coincidentally, that would have been foreshadowed by the aforementioned choice of lightsaber color among most of the players.

Cal could become something of a Rebel leader and member of the Hidden Path, which is dedicated to protecting those who are hunted by the Empire. If so, he would be treading the same steps as Ahsoka. Alternatively, players could witness a disastrous outcome to his relationship with Merrin that could send him on a darker path, if not becoming a complete villain or simply dying off. These could significantly impact how Cal’s fate in the following Star Wars Jedi games would play out, but they are great approaches to the development of the story – and perhaps even introduce a new playable character to replace him.

Though the popular lightsaber color choice in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a mere, fun coincidence, it does seem more likely that Cal Kestis’ fate lies in the Gray Jedi, or at least an unnamed path between the light and dark sides. Ultimately, players will have to wait to see what happens in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s unannounced sequel, but there is a chance that the coincidental foreshadowing by the community and its preferred lightsaber color is correct.
