In their quest to keep the peace, uphold justice, and maintain integrity in the galaxy far, far away, the Jedi not only embrace the Force but use lightsabers. The wildly effective and personal weapons are each individual Jedi's most important possession. Unfortunately, certain Jedi have been known to lose their lightsabers, some even doing so on multiple occasions.

Throughout on-screen Star Wars, Jedi speak of the importance of the elegant blade, but they then lose it all the same, whether it be in battle, through leaving it behind, or purely through rotten luck.

Honorable Mention - Asajj Ventress

Asajj Ventress with a lightsaber in Star Wars the Clone Wars

Asajj Ventress was never a Jedi, but despite being a Dark Side Force user, the one-time Star Wars villain went on a redemption path when she was cast aside by Dooku and left to die. It was a while after this when she lost her sabers.

Her brilliant dual-wield curved sabers were stolen from her by Barriss Offee, who was framing Ahsoka for crimes against the Jedi and Republic. Not long after this, Ventress got a yellow saber and helped the Jedi in an attempt to take out Dooku, pretty much redeeming herself in the eyes of many.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan and Darth Maul fight in the Duel of the Fateson Naboo in The Phantom Menace

Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber, as seen in A New Hope and Revenge of the Sith, is one of the most iconic lightsabers in the saga but was not Kenobi's first. He wielded his first as a Padawan up until the events of The Phantom Menace.

In this film, Kenobi loses his lightsaber during the duel of the fates in which it is kicked down a reactor shaft by Maul. There are far less cool ways to lose a lightsaber than doing so in one of the best ever lightsaber battles in Star Wars. It is unexpected for a Jedi as responsible and adherent to the Jedi Code as Obi-Wan to have lost a lightsaber, though.

Adi Galia

Maul and Savage Opress duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Adi Galia in Star Wars The Clone Wars

Not the most famous Jedi ever, but one who helped showcase the threat of the epic Clone Wars duo of Maul and Savage Opress through her death, Adi Galia had two lightsabers, the second of which is the one viewers got acquainted with in the animated show.

The frustrating part about this is the fact fans do not know how she lost her first lightsaber. The only canon record of it comes in a visual dictionary in which it gets said briefly that the blade got destroyed on a mission prior to 32 BY, i.e., before The Phantom Menace.

Ezra Bridger

Ezra Bridger shows off his new Lightsaber to Sabine Wren Star Wars Rebels Path Of The Jedi

Ezra Bridger is known and loved by fans of Star Wars: Rebels, and similar to the character himself, his two lightsabers are the subject of varying opinions, with his first being one of the most unique in the Star Wars canon.

A combination lightsaber/blaster is undoubtedly unique and a good reflection of Ezra at that time. It also had no chance in withstanding the strength of Vader, who destroyed it with his own iconic lightsaber in "Twilight of the Apprentice" in one of many displays of Vader's immense power.

Cal Kestis

Cal Kestis trains as a Padawan under Jedi Master Taro Japal in Jedi Fallen Order

The main protagonist of Jedi: Fallen Order wields a couple of lightsabers throughout the game, with them mainly being the best weapons Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has to offer. Only two lightsabers were actually his, though, and he lost the first long before the events of the game.

As a Padawan under Jaro Tapal, Cal had a blue lightsaber that got lost during his escape from Order 66. He got given his Master's lightsaber, which he would use until he created a new, epic one on Ilum. The young Jedi can hardly get blamed for losing his weapon during the frantic events of Order 66.

Yoda

Yoda fighting Darth Sidious on the Senate floor in Revenge of the Sith

Yoda, the wisest and most powerful Jedi of his time, wielded a green shoto lightsaber that fans got to see in the prequel trilogy after much speculation over whether or not he needed a lightsaber.

The blade got dropped and subsequently lost during his epic duel in the Senate chamber with Darth Sidious. The blade eventually got burned by Mas Amedda during a public demonstration that announced the galaxy's freedom from the Jedi. Being as old as he was, Yoda very well could have had more lightsabers before the one seen in the prequels and could have lost them too.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, Again

Jango Fett battles Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Attack of the Clones

In Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan lambasts Anakin for almost losing his lightsaber, calling it a Jedi's life. Ironically, Obi-Wan would lose his second lightsaber at the end of this film.

It was taken from him by the Geonosians and never seen by Kenobi again, prompting him to build a third and a final lightsaber that would last the rest of his life through the Clone Wars and his exile on Tatooine.

Anakin Skywalker

Anakin Killing Tusken Raiders in Attack of the Clones

The Skywalker lightsaber is the most iconic lightsaber of the Skywalker saga and one that got wielded by all of the Skywalker Force users in the films, except for Leia. It was not Anakin's first blade, though.

His first lightsaber is hugely similar to the Skywalker saber. It got destroyed by a cutting arm in the Geonosian factory Anakin, and Padmé had infiltrated. Darth Vader also lost his first lightsaber before constructing a red one that was the more iconic blade known by original trilogy fans.

Ahsoka Tano

Ahsoka Tano buired the clones who tried to kill her after Order 66 in Star Wars The Clone Wars

While most characters lose their lightsabers in battle or in some sort of situation in which they could not save it, Ahsoka Tano willingly gave up her lightsabers at the end of The Clone Wars, although she was not technically a Jedi anymore.

She placed them at the gravesite where she had buried so many of Rex's brothers in one of Ahsoka Tano's most heartbreaking scenes, going on to build her white lightsabers after that. This was not the first time she had lost them; she lost them while on the run from the Republic in season 5. Anakin returned them to her in their heartwarming season 7 reunion.

Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker duels Darth Vader on Bespin in The Empire Strikes Back

Being as young and naive as he was in the first two installments of the original trilogy, it is hardly surprising that Luke managed to lose the Skywalker lightsaber. However, the blade is stooped in mystery regarding what it got up to between his losing it and Rey finding it.

The lightsaber, once owned by Anakin and given to Luke by Obi-Wan, got lost when Vader cut off Luke's hand during their epic duel on Bespin. After this, Luke would create his iconic green lightsaber that would last the rest of his life, getting taken care of by the Caretakers on Ach-To when he went into exile.
