Much like Babu Frik, EA's other upcoming Star Wars video game besides Jedi: Fallen Order 2 will be small and unusual, according to initial reports. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has been highly praised by many critics and fans since its release last year, and although some players felt the game leaned too heavily into lengthy climbing sections and repetitive backtracking moments most were simply happy to have a complete Star Wars single-player experience.
EA's popularity with Star Wars fans had been steadily dropping in the years leading up to the release of Jedi: Fallen Order, party because the company insisted on giving players grinding, microtransaction-fueled content like in EA's iterations of the Star Wars Battlefront series, and also because of numerous cancelled projects which fans would rather have been playing instead. Thanks to the positive reception and high sales of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, it appears that EA has indeed taken notice, as a job listing nearly three months ago saw Respawn Entertainment, the development company which created Jedi: Fallen Order, looking to hire new people for their Star Wars division.
Now, according to recent reports from Kotaku which outlined a number of the aforementioned cancelled Star Wars projects, players are able to piece together a little more information on the other upcoming Star Wars video game besides Jedi: Fallen Order 2. First mentioned in a separate Kotaku article which focused on yet another cancelled Star Wars game, EA's other new Star Wars title is being developed by EA Motive in Montreal, Canada, and is described as being a "smaller, more unusual project" than Jedi: Fallen Order 2.
There isn't much official information about this new, smaller Star Wars game, or what exactly makes it so unusual, but players do know that it's planned to release sometime around late 2020, although whether this will be on next generation gaming consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X or current-gen ones remains uncertain. EA Motive's website offers little in the way of hints, as it currently only contains two news posts which are both dated December 7th, 2017 and centered around the updated Star Wars Battlefront series. However, they too are currently hiring for a large number of various positions from Narrative Director and Audio Artist to Producer and QA Managers.
A new, more unusual Star Wars game on next-gen consoles would likely help players who feel unsure about whether it's time to upgrade come to their decision much quicker, and EA Motive's past experience with the Battlefront franchise could mean parts of the cancelled Battlefront spin-off game could be re-tooled to work for this new project. Whatever the new Star Wars game besides Jedi Fallen Order 2 ends up being, fans can only hope it doesn't become the latest in the long line of cancelled projects.
