Baby Jar Jar Binks is coming for Baby Yoda's title as the cutest character in the Star Wars universe thanks to a new fan video. Jar Jar was touted as the "new Yoda" when Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, the first film in George Lucas' prequel series, was released back in 1999. Unfortunately for the marketing team at Lucasfilm, the character turned out to be more divisive than Return of the Jedi's Ewoks, thanks to his irritating mannerisms and vaguely racist accent.

Yoda, on the other hand, remains perennially popular, and the Baby Yoda seen in The Mandalorian, officially known as "The Child," has only made that fan appreciation grow. The character, not actually Yoda, but an infant from the same species, made its debut appearance in the first episode of the series and is a central driving figure in season 1's overarching narrative. Baby Yoda's popularity exploded during the show's run on Disney+, appearing in countless memes and launching an entire line of incredibly cute merchandise. In response, Leonardo Viti created Baby Jar Jar Binks fan art in an effort to redeem the character and attempt to make him popular again.

Now, Viti has released an updated version of his fan art, in the form of an animated video of Baby Jar Jar. Viti teamed up with animator Simone Giampaolo, who turned his static digital art into an incredibly cute animated video. In it, Baby Jar Jar blows raspberries with his tongue, and the animation is overlaid with the sound of a happy baby. The result certainly puts Baby Jar Jar in the running for cutest unofficial character from Star Wars. You can see the animation below.

The animation has to be played with the sound on to get the full cute effect, but be warned, viewers might find themselves starting to develop a fondness for Jar Jar after watching it. Unfortunately, no matter how cute this fan video is, it's unlikely to redeem Jar Jar in the eyes of many Star Wars fans, who perhaps unfairly call him the worst character in the movies. The hatred of the character was at one point so bad that Ahmed Best, who provided the motion capture for Jar Jar, as well as his voice, became suicidal.

Thankfully Best has been able to move on from the role and make peace with his place in the Star Wars universe, even saying he would be open to return as Jar Jar. He has, however, confirmed that Jar Jar will not appear in the upcoming Obi-Wan show on Disney+. He has also found a new place in the Star Wars universe, playing a Jedi Knight called Master Kelleran Beq, host of the game show Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge.  That, combined with this adorable video, may make fans think twice about Jar Jar Binks.
