Warning! Spoilers ahead for Star Wars: Crimson Reign #5

In the final issue of Star Wars: Crimson Reign, a new empire has been formed in an attempt to destroy the galaxy's Sith Lords once and for all. Rather than being allied with the Rebellion or the few remaining Jedi that exist between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the JediLady Qi'ra and Crimson Dawn have built a brand new resistance that's all their own. As such, this new Hidden Empire has risen with the express purpose of specifically ending the Sith Lords, rather than the Galactic Empire they rule during this era.

Following the War of the Bounty Hunters crossover event which saw Crimson Dawn's resurgence under the leadership of Lady Qi'ra, Crimson Reign has seen all of Qi'ra executing various plots against the Sith, having spies and agents all over the galaxy (including within the Empire itself). These have included the Knights of Ren stealing from Darth Vader's fortress, Ochi of Bestoon assassinating Palpatine's entire royal guard right in front of him, and even trying to find and recruit Jedi Master Yoda to join Crimson Dawn. Qi'ra also managed to trick all of the other crime syndicates into warring with each other in an attempt to win the Emperor's favor.

Now, the final issue of Crimson Reign from Charles Soule and Steven Cummings features Darth Vader and Palpatine deciding to make the destruction of Lady Qi'ra and Crimson Dawn their highest priority, seeing the crime syndicate as a genuine threat to their power. However, this last chapter also sees Qi'ra upping the ante now that her endgame is finally ready. Giving the order to spread absolute chaos to stagger the Sith on all fronts, Qi'ra confirms that the Dawn is bringing forth a brand new regime in the Star Wars galaxy.

Now that War of the Bounty Hunters and Crimson Reign have both come to an end, Hidden Empire is now on the horizon as the final chapter of this new Star Wars trilogy set between the fifth and sixth episodes of the Skywalker saga. The outcome of Crimson Dawn's war with the Sith is a foregone conclusion with Lady Qi'ra ultimately failing. After all, Luke Skywalker and the Rebellion are the ones to destroy the Sith and Empire as seen in Return of the Jedi. However, seeing how far Qi'ra and Crimson Dawn get to ending the Sith will still be an entertaining ride.

All in all, two empires existing in the Star Wars galaxy simultaneously is quite an exciting concept, especially with one being created with the sole goal of destroying the other's powerful leaders. While Vader and Emperor Palpatine will of course be the victors, it's still quite a testament to Lady Qi'ra that the Sith Lords view her as a legitimate threat to their power in the Star Wars galaxy. The fact that she's already come as far as she has is impressive in and of itself.
