A new video shows the Boy Who Lived himself from Harry Potter taking on Star Wars' Luke Skywalker in an epic LEGO rap battle. Both characters remain some of the biggest fictional heroes in the world, with franchises that have attracted millions of dedicated fans for decades. Exactly who is the better hero is best left up to personal opinion, but it seems the debate will always continue to exist.

When examined somewhat closely, it becomes clear just how similar Potter and Skywalker are. Both grew up as orphans, with an aunt and uncle as guardians. Both were kept under the watchful eye of a wise and powerful mentor, who was eventually killed by evil forces. And of course, both heroes share a preternatural ability to utilize magical forces for their own defence and well-being. Though there is a substantial age difference between the two, their respective challenges faced are equally as vital, with the existence of all that is good and fair hanging in the balance. With qualities such as these, it’s easy to understand just why Potter and Skywalker are such fan favorites and continue to remain major fan favorites, despite both no longer being the focus of the franchises they inhabit.

It’s safe to say that there will never be a Star Wars or Harry Potter film made in which the two fictional heroes actually meet or join forces. This is probably a good thing. However, that doesn’t stop fans from imagining what a meeting between the two would be like. In the case of YouTube channel ERB, a hypothetical meeting between Potter and Skywalker has not only taken place as LEGO characters, but also as a rap battle. It’s an unlikely scenario, but one that is highly enjoyable to watch unfold:

The video leaves viewers with the chance to decide who won, and it’s a hard choice to make. Potter makes some valid points about Skywalker, and vice versa. Whether it’s the sort of battle that fans needed is another question altogether, but now that it’s here, the debate could continue for quite some time over who is the better hero (and rapper). For viewers who are more interested in the process of actually making a video as detailed and professional looking as the rap battle is, the people behind ERB have also added a behind the scenes video, which highlights just how much of a challenge it was getting this rap battle off the ground.

If the LEGO battle between Potter and Skywalker had focused on any other trait the characters possess - such as, say, magical skills - the safe bet for victory is likely Potter. In fact, it’s much harder to decide who’s a better rapper than it is to decide who has more power and who can better wield it. Potter’s range of possibilities seem endless, whereas Skywalker, though powerful in his own right, can’t simply hit an enemy with a soundly conjured death curse. On the microphone, however, Skywalker drops some pretty solid bars and let’s face it, he’s on to something when he says Potter’s origin story is mostly taken from him.
