Star Wars gave Han Solo a secret and truly disgusting connection to Indiana Jones in the comics. With both characters being a creation of George Lucas and both being played by actor Harrison Ford, Solo and Jones naturally have a lot in common as roguish heroes in search of fortune and glory (who ultimately do the right thing). However, Marvel's Vader Down storyline saw Han Solo getting a very similar fear held by the famous archaeologist as well: snakes.

In Vader Down from Jason Aaron, Kieron Gillen, Mike Deodato, and Salvador Larroca, the Rebellion managed to destroy Darth Vader's TIE Advanced, forcing him to crash on the planet of Vrogas Vos. Set between the events of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Backthis was the Rebellion's best chance to destroy the Dark Lord of the Sith seeing as how he was alone without the might of the Empire. However, Vader epically proves in the storyline that he never needed the Empire to be a lethal force to be reckoned with, eventually escaping following a brutal massacre of the Rebellion's forces.

During the search for Vader on the planet below, Han Solo and Chewbacca were searching for Luke Skywalker (who rammed his X-Wing into Vader's TIE which forced them both to crash). Eventually finding Luke in the clutches of Doctor Aphra who was working for Vader at the time, Han and the rogue archaeologist exchange blaster fire. However, they both hit nearby nests of "wasp-worms" that end up covering them both, resembling snakes which Indiana Jones very much fears. As Han Solo and Aphra run toward each other in fear and disgust, there's even a line calling back to Indy's classic line: "Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?".

Han Solo and Aphra in Vader Down

Hilariously slamming into each other and knocking each other unconscious out of fear from the wasp-worms, this new connection between Han Solo and Indy's fear of snakes is truly gross (and very funny). Likewise, it's also a new tie between Doctor Aphra who was created specifically with Jones in mind, serving as a big inspiration for her character. Furthermore, it also should be noted that one of the best parts of this battle was that Han and Aphra both shot the nests intentionally, thinking the other was an idiot for positioning right below them.

In any case, it's always fun when writers add references to other characters and/or properties, especially when it's someone like Indiana Jones who shares commonality with Han Solo (and Doctor Aphra). While it's not an overt Star Wars/Indiana Jones crossover comic like the one in Dark Horse's Star Wars Tales #19, the subtle connection points are pretty cool for readers to find. For fans of both Han Solo and Indiana Jones, it's a pretty awesome moment among several during the Rebellion's epic hunt for Darth Vader.
