Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker actors John Boyega and Oscar Isaac are not interested in reprising their characters for a Disney+ TV show. Once The Rise of Skywalker premieres later this month, Disney is putting the Star Wars movies on a short hiatus, but the franchise isn't going away completely. The galaxy far, far away is set to have a sizable presence on streaming service Disney+. In addition to The Mandalorian (which already has season 2 on the way), Lucasfilm is working on a Rogue One prequel with Cassian Andor and an Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries.
Three shows is a decent-sized slate for the studio, but they aren't stopping there. Last month, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed there are more Star Wars series in development for the platform, but so far there isn't any word on what these might be. However, for those holding out hope Finn and Poe Dameron's adventures can continue on the small screen, that does not appear to be in the cards at all.
Speaking with Variety, Boyega was asked if he'd consider a return to Star Wars. In response, the actor said, "You ain't going to Disney+ me!" and stated he'd prefer to remain on the movie side of things (as long as Isaac and Daisy Ridley are up for it). In a separate interview with Collider, Isaac was asked if he'd want to come back for a Disney+ show, and his answer was a simple "Nope!"
This'll be disappointing for fans to hear, but it's understandable why Isaac and Boyega feel this way. As much fun as the actors had making the sequel trilogy, there comes a point where it's time to move on. This isn't to say the Star Wars cast isn't grateful for the opportunity to be part of something so iconic, but they're all probably looking forward to playing new roles and taking on fresh challenges. Plus, there's the fact The Rise of Skywalker wraps up the current trilogy and the saga as a whole, meaning there will be an air of finality in the movie. In all likelihood, that mood was present on set and The Rise of Skywalker felt like the end of an era for those making it. Similar to Robert Downey, Jr. and Chris Evans leaving the MCU after Avengers: Endgame, Boyega and Isaac (and Ridley, for that matter) may feel there isn't anything left for them to do in this realm.
Rey, Finn, and Poe may not be back onscreen after The Rise of Skywalker, but there are other avenues available should Lucasfilm want to continue their individual stories. Star Wars is a multimedia empire, complemented immensely by novels, comics, and video games that work to flesh out the universe and add to the lore. Perhaps the sequel trilogy heroes could be the subjects of their own books (like this year's Resistance Reborn) that show what they're up to after the events of the sequel trilogy. As for those mysterious other Disney+ shows Lucasfilm has in the pipeline, time will tell what they are.
