The original Star Wars trilogy rightfully gets heralded as one of the finest cinematic trilogies of all time, with imagination and brilliance throughout. However, it is not totally flawless. Whether it be character mistakes or production errors, there are many goofs that made it into the three original films, most of which admittedly add to the charm of the movies.

Often these errors can be pretty hilarious. Like a certain stormtrooper head-bump, some have even become iconic in the pop culture zeitgeist for how funny they are and how painfully obvious they are on-screen, only making fans enjoy them more.

The Iconic Stormtrooper Head Bump In A New Hope

A stormtrooper bangs their head on a doorframe while chasing the heroes through the Death Star in A New Hope

The most famous production mishap in all of Star Wars comes in A New Hope when, all the way back in 1977, a stormtrooper smacks his head on one of the door frames on the Death Star.

It is an iconic moment that has been laughed about and pointed out on countless rewatches since, with many memes and jokes coming out of the moment that has a pretty distinct noise from it.

Lando Calrissian's Less Famous Head Bump In Return Of The Jedi

Lando Calrissian is disguised as a skiff guard helping to break Han out of Jabba's Palace in Return Of The Jedi

A New Hope is not the only one of the original trilogy films to have a head bump from one of the actors - it is merely the more famous one. Six years later, in Return of the Jedi, Billy Dee Williams also falls victim to his own height.

Disguised in Jabba's Palace as a part of the heroic plan to rescue Han, Lando can be seen hitting his head on the ceiling of one of Jabba's doorways, knocking his helmet back in the process. It is easy to miss, but once it is seen, it becomes a funny goof but one that is a lot less universally known than the stormtrooper.

The New York Lightsaber In The Empire Strikes Back

Luke Skywalker's lightsaber lies stuck in the snow in the Wampa's cave on Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back

A good handful of the original trilogy's biggest goofs and mistakes come from lightsabers. The technology to show the weapon on-screen to its full potential had yet to be created, after all. The Empire Strikes Back sees one hard-to-spot mistake on Hoth.

While Luke hangs in the terrifying Wampa cave on Hoth, and his lightsaber is stuck hilt down in the snow, the words "New York" are visible on the lightsaber's butt. It is doubtful New York exists in Star Wars canon, and so it is simply a production mishap that tells audiences where the blade was made here on Earth.

The Visible Camera Crew In Threepio's Head In The Empire Strikes Back

Chewbacca finds C-3PO in parts thanks to the Ugnauts on Bespin and rescues him in The Empire Strikes Back

Generally, the effects in the Star Wars original trilogy are fantastic, particularly the practical elements. In The Empire Strikes Back, though, C-3PO's practical body caused a pretty funny production mishap.

Upon close inspection, while Threepio is in bits and pieces in the Ugnaught's work station, the reflection of the camera crew can be seen in Threepio's head. This is the kind of thing that gets rectified with updates of the movie but it's still a hilarious mistake to have ever happened.

The Ewok With Human Fingers In Return Of The Jedi

The rebels are captured by Ewoks on the Forest Moon of Endor in Return Of The Jedi

Practical costumes are an absolute joy in the original trilogy. Whether it is the completely practical puppet for Yoda, the metallic outfits for droids, or the beloved and adorable Ewoks, whose costumes have a hilarious goof in Return of the Jedi.

After Han, Luke, Chewie, and the droids have been captured by one of the Ewok traps, the Ewoks disarm the heroes. One of the Ewoks grabs Han Solo's blaster, and it is blatantly apparent the Ewok doing so has human fingers, which is a hilarious visual against the fuzziness of the costumes.

Vader's Lightsaber Igniting Out The Wrong End In Return Of The Jedi

Darth Vader throws his lightsaber at Luke during their battle, but it ignites out the wrong end in Return of the Jedi

The immortal duel between Luke and Vader on the second Death Star is incredible to watch and probably the best part of Return of the Jedi. However, it does have one glaring flaw.

When Luke takes the high ground against his father, Vader throws his lightsaber to bring him back down. While doing so, the lightsaber can be seen ignited out of the wrong end, coming out of the bottom of the saber rather than the top. There is no in-universe clarification for this - it is just a great mistake.

The Dead Rebel Protecting His Head In A New Hope

Darth Vader interrogates, chokes, and kills Captain Antilles on the Tantive IV in A New Hope

There are some goofy moments in the Star Wars movies that CGI or special edition updates cannot cover up. Vader's murder of Captain Antilles at the start of A New Hope is one such time.

After being choked and having his neck broken by the Dark Lord of the Sith, Captain Antilles gets launched into a pipe-like structure on the walls of the Tantive IV. When this happens, the actor protects his head, which is hilarious, given that he is so clearly dead at this moment and also wearing a helmet.

Captain Needa Steps Up While Dead In The Empire Strikes Back

Captain Needa is Force choked to death by Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back

Captain Antilles momentarily coming back to life in A New Hope is not the only victim of Darth Vader's who momentarily comes back to life, with Lorth Needa doing the very same in The Empire Strikes Back.

After being Force choked to death by Vader, Needa has to be dragged away by Imperials. Rather than just being dragged as is, though, Needa actually takes a step up and is dragged on his front. Somehow, instead of just being dead weight, Needa was considerate enough to reanimate to help the other officers pull his corpse.

The Extra Who Is Happy About The Death Star Being Operational In Return Of The Jedi

Nein Numb in Star Wars Return of the Jedi

Extra's can provide some hilarious moments in film and TV, which is something that is not exclusive to Star Wars, and in Return of the Jedi, there is an easy-to-spot bit of fun from one of them.

While Lando and Nein Numb are piloting the Millennium Falcon, leading the charge in the epic Battle of Endor, they realize the Death Star is operational. When Lando points this out and the camera cuts to Nein Numb, the extra behind him can be seen looking towards the camera with a massive grin on his face.

Threepio Falls But Makes It Look Good In A New Hope

Luke Skywalker uncovers the message from Princess Leia in R2-D2 on Tatooine in A New Hope

Sometimes, when mistakes are made in production by crew or actors, they can be instantly fixed to made unnoticeable to the naked eye. In A New Hope, Anthony Daniels achieves this in a smooth, pretty funny manner.

If audiences pay close attention to Threepio during the scene where Luke is cleaning Artoo and accidentally uncovers the holo-message from Leia when Luke falls back and finds the message, Threepio gets a fright and falls off the step he is on. Daniels/Threepio does not fall or stumble at all, though, he just stands, making it look almost deliberate.
