From the moment that his hulking black silhouette emerged into a smoke-filled corridor and his mechanical breathing hissed out of his mask, audiences would never forget the chill of fear they felt beholding Darth Vader for the first time. Appearing as the ultimate cinematic villain in Episode IV: A New Hope, Vader would become the face of George Lucas's Star Wars Saga forever.

A Dark Lord of the Sith, he was once a heroic Jedi Knight, before Emperor Palpatine twisted him into his evil right hand. He became the enforcer of The Empire's tyranny across the galaxy, and a plague upon the Jedi Order and the Rebel Alliance. For all of Vader's lack of warmth and humor, his incredibly straight-forward and intimidating presence lends itself well to memes. Below are ten of the most hilarious memes about Darth Vader, that'll have you hissing like the Dark Lord himself from laughing so hard.

YOU HAVE ALTERED THE FRANCHISE

Longtime Star Wars fans were initially thrilled when George Lucas announced he was making a series of prequel films to his classic trilogy. They would finally get to see origin stories for some of their favorite characters, as well as the fall of Anakin Skywalker to the Dark Side of the Force. What they got was a fractured narrative with meandering dialogue, and a departure from the concepts they expected to see.

While there seemed few redeeming qualities about the prequels, they were still from the mind of the man who created Star Wars, and they pushed the boundaries of visual storytelling. Then came the Disney produced trilogy, and fans became even more divided about the state of the franchise.

COME TO THE DARK SIDE...

As if the Dark Side didn't already have cookies, now you get Disneyland as an added perk. While the Dark Side may not have the entirety of Disneyland, it does have a big swathe. Galaxy's Edge, the site of the previous Toon Town area in the famous theme park, opened this year as an immersive Star Wars experience.

Residing in a never-before-seen outpost, on an entirely new planet, it offers Star Wars fans the chance to fly a life-sized Millennium Falcon during the Smugglers Run ride, and take on the First Order in Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction. You can also go to the cantina, build a droid, or construct your own lightsaber. Impressive, most impressive.

COOL ENOUGH FOR YOUR OWN THEME MUSIC

Darth Vader is easily one of the most iconic figures in the Star Wars Saga. He's one of the most recognizable characters in the franchise, from his intimidating silhouette to his menacing mechanical breathing. Beyond that, he has one of the most celebrated pieces of music attached to him; John Williams' "Imperial March", first heard in Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.

While it didn't play when Vader first appeared on screen in a smoke-filled corridor of the Tantive V, it would become his signature suite, a theme played whenever his flagship Star Destroyer was seen, and an enduring example of the Empire's might and resilience.

I FIND YOUR LACK OF FAITH DISTURBING

One of the first examples of raw Force power is from Darth Vader in Episode IV: A New Hope. During a "staff meeting" with Grand Moff Tarkin and the other high ranking officers, Admiral Motti thinks he can run his mouth about Vader's inability to retrieve the lost Death Star plans. He goes so far as to insult Vader's "sad devotion to that ancient religion", openly mocking his Sith ways in front of his peers.

For his insolence, Vader reaches out a gloved hand and goes to give Admiral Motti's throat a hug, saying the immortal one-liner, "I find your lack of faith disturbing". He nearly kills him with the Force choke maneuver, until Tarkin saves the day and has Vader release it. Who hasn't wanted to do that in their own staff meeting at work?

DOING THE DARK LORD'S WORK

The old adage "The Lord's work is never done" takes on a whole new meaning here, with Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith out for an evening stroll with his pet (a miniature AT-AT). Is this perhaps where AT-AT's come from? They start as small versions and then grow to the ginormous metal monstrosities we first caught a glimpse of in The Empire Strikes Back?

Now we're just imagining Vader accepting his typical dad responsibilities, in some alternate galaxy where Luke and Leia begged for an AT-AT and then stopped feeding it regularly and taking it for walks. They only want dad around when he's going to take care of the family pet, not when he's Force choking Leia's potential boyfriends.

FOR A MILLION LIKES

As if Darth Vader having his own social media account wasn't scary enough, then there's the idea that he could appeal to his millions of followers for a shiny new Death Star. One would think that the threat of being Force choked through your screen would be enough to double tap that "Like" button.

Would the Emperor really promise to build Vader a new Death Star, though? Two were already destroyed, the second of which had the Emperor on it when it blew. As silly as it was to build another one, it was nothing compared to the First Order getting the same idea, except just instead of making a Death Star the size of a planet, it would turn a planet into a Death Star.

LIFTING OTHERS UP

If you think about it, Darth Vader would make a pretty motivating leader. Though there's a high likelihood that you'd get Force choked in an upper management position, the perpetual fear of that happening would inspire you to make fewer mistakes and therefore incur less of the Dark Lord's wrath.

Of course, when we first see Vader "lifting" anyone up, it's some Rebel Scum aboard the Tantive V, the ship carrying Princess Leia and the stolen Death Star plans. Sadly, Vader doesn't get any information out of this soldier, but no doubt the symbolism behind the gesture was inspiring enough to start some other tongues wagging.

SUPREME AWESOMENESS

Darth Vader is to Star Wars what Batman is to the DC Universe; one the most recognizable characters in the franchise and often the face of it. Like Batman, Darth Vader comes from a fractured childhood, essentially orphaned during his developmental years when his mother Shmi Skywalker was killed, and deciding to take his anger out on everyone else.

True, Batman is a "good guy" and Darth Vader clearly isn't, but isn't everyone the hero of their own story, even villains? To Darth Vader, all of the carnage he inflicted on the Jedi Order was totally justified - after all, if they'd just given him the ability to save his wife's life with the Force, he wouldn't have had to slaughter every last one of their younglings.

LOCK S-FOILS IN ATTACK POSITION

Vader makes great "dad joke" material, but what about some "your mom" jokes for good measure? Comparing your mom to an X-Wing in "attack position" clearly refers to when S-Foils are engaged and the X-Wings make their signature "X" look... CLEARLY nothing else to infer there!

In some ways, the meme could be a callout of Vader's mom, but that wouldn't be advisable, because Vader is nothing if not a mama's boy. The Tusken Raiders kidnapping and torturing his mother, Shmi Skywalker, was one of the initial nails in the coffin to secure his descent to the Dark Side.

THE DARK SIDE OF THE COFFEE

Some people aren't morning people, and don't feel like "themselves" until they've had their morning cup of coffee. A bit like Vader in his isolation chamber, before his mask and helmet are secured. Vader strikes us as a morning person, up with the sun and ready to take on the day. Early birds get the hidden Rebel bases, after all. And is it ever too early to start interrogating Rebel prisoners?

Something tells us Vader would be a black coffee drinker. None of that sissy cream or milk stuff. Black like his soul. Black like his armor. It would be difficult to drink from a cup though - he'd need it piped in through the various feeding tubes he has connected to the inside of his suit.
