Star Wars has provided fans with a plethora of deleted scenes over the years, and for a long while, it was difficult to access some of them. Luckily, many favorite deleted scenes were added to Disney +, giving fans easy access to their favorite bits and commentary. These moments gave insight into the gander visions the various teams had while putting the films together.

Some of these scenes stood out amongst the others due to their hilarious qualities. Whether it be intentional, unintentional, or a result of being in the early stages of production, these scenes leave a memorable impression on those who see them. It’s hard to see many of the saga’s movies the same way after watching what could’ve been.

Speaking In Code

An image of Shaak Ti getting killed by General Grevious in Star Wars

Revenge of the Sith is a treasure trove of funny deleted scenes. At the beginning of the movie, General Grievous kills Shaak Ti in front of Anakin and Obi-Wan after the Jedi are outnumbered. Shaak Ti's emotionless facial expressions and Anakin and Obi-Wan's strange reactions to her death make all of the social interactions feel jarring.

At first, the cheeky Jedi are finishing each other's sentences while talking to one of Obi-Wan’s iconic rivals. As the scene goes on, the pair begin to touch their faces in an attempt to speak code to each other. This whole scene is too goofy to be taken seriously. That being said, it was satisfying to see Obi-Wan comedically twirling his mustache.

Rey Crashes The Party

During a deleted scene from The Last Jedi, Rey bursts into the caretaker village on Ahch-To, believing they are being attacked by raiders. She is surprised to see the caretakers celebrating, and everyone shares a moment of awkward silence. One of the caretakers gestures for Rey to shake around her lightsaber, and the crowd bursts into excitement.

So many subtle emotions were conveyed through the facial expressions and body language of the creatures. This was a testament to the talents of all the puppeteers and makeup artists who brought these aliens to life. It was a real treat to see so many practical effects used for the creatures of the sequel trilogy.

The Pod Race Extended Grid

One of the most redeemable parts of The Phantom Menace was the Pod Race. In the extended version of the opening Pod Race scene, the full grid of racers are introduced. Many racers who weren’t given much screen time are introduced with funny commentary from the announcer Fodesinbeed Annodue.

The funniest commentary came when Mars Guo is introduced. As the announcers declare his name, Jar Jar takes the opportunity to steal the spotlight from him, immersing himself in the cheers and applause from the crowd. Obviously, it's an act that doesn't thrill Mars Guo, who can be seen stamping their feet in anger in the back.

Wampa Strikes Back!

An image of a Wampa attacking the Rebel base in Star Wars

The Empire Strikes Back has many of the most iconic moments in the Star Wars franchise. Who can forget Luke’s tense encounter with the Wampa? This wasn’t the last time one of these creatures would appear in the movie. In a deleted sequence during the rebel base evacuation, a Wampa breaks into the tunnels to terrorize rebels and imperials alike.

Throughout the entire sequence with the Wampa, it’s obvious that the creature’s suit was cheap. This would greatly restrict the actor inside, resulting in many awkward movements that are unintentionally funny. It didn’t help that all the shots of the creature were drawn out too long.

Extended Anakin and Obi-Wan Lava Duel

An image of Obi Wan and Anakin battling on Mustafar in Star Wars

In this extended sequence from Revenge of the SithAnakin and Obi-Wan have a slightly different version of their duel on Mustafar. The two roll around in circles and clash blades as they inch their way up the broken structure. As the scene continues, Anakin uses his heightened power to force push lava at Obi-Wan.

Anakin’s defeat is worse and much more brutal in this version of the scene. Instead of  “the high ground” discussion, Obi-Wan slashes Anakin’s legs off when the pair are battling on one of the hovering platforms. The uncanny expression on Obi-Wan’s face is unintentionally funny as he watches Anakin burn alive beneath him.

Extended Battle of Geonosis

An image of the Geonosian creatures fighting in the arena in Star Wars

During the extended raid on the Geonosian arena in Attack of the Clones, Jedi are shown mindlessly running around and chopping at the air with their lightsabers. It’s obvious that this whole sequence was in the early visual development stages, but like many of the other scenes, it doesn’t take away from the hilarity.

It is funny to see how jarring this whole sequence is. None of the extras seem to know what’s going on. In the sequence, Ki Adi Mundi disables a battery that was thought to turn off all the droids instantly to no avail. Although this fixes a plot hole from The Phantom Menace, this extra part of the battle would’ve messed with the pacing.

Mon Calamari Pilot

An image of Pilot Calamari talking in Star Wars

In a series of deleted clips from Return of the Jedi, a Mon Calamari pilot gives fans a variety of hilarious quips as he fights in a space battle. Throughout the scene, the Mon Calamari says “fried calamari tonight,” “all this technology and no men's room,” “boy are these humans weird," "I wish I could stop drooling,” and “this is the last time I fly Lucus Air!”

The chaos behind the scenes is what makes the whole bit even funnier. Fans can hear the director giving joke lines to the voice actor while they're filming. Throughout the scene, the Mon Calamari puppet has a variety of technical difficulties that give it funny facial movements. Like other deleted scenes from the original trilogy, this clip provides entertaining insight into life on set.

Extended Yoda Vs The Emperor Duel

Yoda and Darth Sidious duel in the Senate Chamber in Revenge of the Sith

The epic battle between Yoda and the Emperor in Revenge of the Sith is one of the most iconic battles in the saga. In the extended version of the scene, the scale and length of the battle is even bigger. Despite the interesting additions to the fight, such as the cameras filming the battle, the goofy aspects are taken to a greater extreme.

At one point in the fight, the Emperor clings for dear life to one of the hovering cameras while trying to flee from Yoda. During the fight’s finale, Yoda redirects the Emperor’s force lighting through a camera to electrocute him. Imagine what the Emperor’s campy expressions would’ve looked like if this was the final version in the movie.

Elevator Antics

An image of Obi Wan and Anakin standing in an elevator together in Star Wars

Hayden Christiansen and Ewan McGregor’s chemistry shines in this hilarious Revenge of the Sith deleted scene. As Anakin and Obi-Wan make their way to the elevator aboard the Invisible Hand they struggle to understand R2-D2's message to them. While the pair bicker, Anakin attempts to speak binary to hilarious effect.

It's so strange to see Anakin speak binary, especially considering it was just the astromech sound poorly dubbed over him. Shortly afterward, Anakin and Obi-Wan slice up an elevator filled with invisible droids. The scene is topped off with Christensen and McGregor breaking character as they chuckle together. They couldn't help themselves.

Extended Grievous and Obi-Wan Chase

General Grievous and Obi Wan fighting in Star Wars

In many ways, this deleted scene feels like fan fiction. It starts off relatively similar to the way it plays out in Revenge of the Sith. After losing his duel with Obi-Wan on Utapau, Grievous escapes on his wheel bike. From there, the most ridiculous action scene in Star Wars plays out.

Over the course of the long chase, Grievous rides through a subway train and uses his wheel bike to fling pieces of dead clones at Obi-Wan. When the battle ends, Obi-Wan rips Grievous's brain out of his chest cavity and shoots it with a blaster. This hilariously over-the-top brutality of this sequence is a must watch.
