In the Star Wars universe, it's safe to say that the Jedi are some of the most beloved characters. However, the Jedi (and their Sith counterparts) come in all shapes and sizes. Any race could have a force-sensitive born among their ranks to become a Jedi or a Sith.

However, among all the variety, there are some species that are naturally inclined towards Force powers. Just like lineage plays a part in some people's Force capabilities, so does species. These races are the ones that have the most Force-sensitives born each year, supporting the Jedi and Sith ranks.

Updated on June 26th, 2021 by Melody MacReadySeeing how it's never been explicitly explored in canon Star Wars media, it can be difficult to measure precisely as to which species are the most powerful wielders of the Force. The best clues have been the characters and their abilities showcased in the many canon movies, shows, games, comics, and books over the many years. This means any Legends books or comics do not factor into judging how powerful a Force-sensitive race is. Instead, it will be up to newer material including Marvel comics, The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for reference.

Mon Calamari

Admiral Ackbar in The Last Jedi

Even though the most popular Mon Calamari are Rebellion leaders; before the Empire rose they were actually prominent members of the Jedi. They have always fought for justice in the galaxy. Quite a few Jedi came from the Mon Calamari, and they all did their best to make every world they visited better off.

One example of a Mon Calamari Jedi was Nahdar Vebb, trained by the famous Kit Fisto himself. Water breathers gotta stick together. If only fans got to see even more Mon Calamari Force-users in action.

Rodian

Even though most people know Rodians for the infamous bounty hunter Greedo, these starry-eyed people are actually quite strong in the Force. There were a number of Jedi from this race, and they seemed to be coming into their own as Force-sensitives when the Empire took control of the galaxy.

For example, in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, not only was there a Jedi Master named Ropal, but also a female Rodian padawan and a young Force-sensitive toddler on the Jedi's immediate radar. These people deserved the see the galaxy more as its peacekeepers and protectors, but unfortunately, the galactic civil war sent more of them back to bounty hunting.

Cerean (Ki-A-Mundi)

Ki Adi Mundi from Star Wars

At face value, Cereans do kind of just look like coneheads. But in their big brains of theirs, they actually have a special connection to the Force and create more Jedi than many other races. Even non-Jedi Cereans have some Force traditions, solidifying them as a powerful, Force-connected species.

Perhaps it has to do with a binary brain with an extra heart in their head, but they are adept thinkers and that aids them as Force-users. This binary brain had some advantage to it, though, as it allowed some Cereans to learn Sith abilities without compromising their Jedi nature. They just compartmentalized it.

Togruta

Ahsoka Tano fighting in The Mandalorian

For fans of the wise Shaak Ti or the beloved and bold Ahsoka Tano, they'll be happy to know that the Togrutas are definitely one of the strongest species in the Force. After all, the Togruta are rather spiritual people; some of their people don't believe in wearing shoes because they feel like it blocks their connection to the earth. They also valued and preferred teamwork, which only proves how truly betrayed Ahsoka felt, to leave everyone behind.

Between their spirituality and interconnected nature, they are a perfect race to have a special, more tangible connection to the Force than others. Though, it is interesting to note the majority of Togruta Jedi are female.

Kel Dor

Plo Koon in the cockpit in Star Wars

One of the most influential and powerful Jedi ever was Plo Koon: a fantastic Jedi Master and pilot. However, he was hardly the only Kel Dor in the Jedi Order. There were several of his species serving as galactic peacekeepers and warriors.

Despite their need for their breathing apparatuses, the Kel Dor have a distinct connection to the Force, not only for battle but also for piloting. Like Anakin Skywalker used the Force to help him navigate a starfighter. Plo Koon and another Kel Dor, Bo Keevil, were both ace pilots.

Twi'Lek

Aayla Secura battles droids in Salucami in The Clone Wars

Despite the canon's affinity for glossing over the Twi'Lek people or treating them poorly, the Twi'Lek's are surprisingly powerful Force users. They have one of the highest numbers of Force-sensitives in Jedi history, including famed Jedi Master Aayla Secura.

The Twi'Lek people may be treated like slaves to the rest of the galaxy, but they clearly have a power in them that makes them strong, resilient people. Not only do Twi'Leks deserve more credit for their contributions and abilities, but also liberate them to be rightful peacekeepers for the galaxy. Their natural athleticism would make them perfect.

Humans

Anakin and Obi-Wan in The Clone Wars.

There is definitely a bias towards humans just because of the sheer volume of them in the galaxy. However, that doesn't discount how many powerful Jedi came from their ranks. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, Kanan Jarrus, the Skywalker legacy, all were powerful humans that made an impact on the galaxy because of their Force aptitude.

There are so many human Jedi that listing them could drive a person insane. Because of the vast population numbers of humans, the strength of human Force users varies wildly, and there are many humans who never can feel the Force at all. That's what loses them out of the top spots.

Zabrak

Darth Maul and Asajj Ventress from the Star Wars universe

The Zabrak, also known as the Dathomirians, are a unique and highly powerful species in the Force. Their entire culture is built around Force sensitivity and the strength of each generation. That's why Darth Sidious came to their planet and stole Darth Maul to train him; he knew of the innate power. Raising a Zabrak of his own, especially one of a powerful lineage, could give him a great advantage.

Making an enemy out of the Zabrak and their Night Mother, though, was a mistake. Too many people in the galaxy underestimate the Night Sisters as bog witches, but their rancor-wrangling and neutral use of dark and light Forces make them a power to be reckoned with.

Zeffo

Zeffo ancient from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Throughout Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, young Jedi Cal Kestis follows the breadcrumbs and learns through Eno Cordova's hologram entries the history of the Zeffo. The Zeffo are an ancient and seemingly extinct race of beings that harnessed the Force in ways that made the Jedi seem weak by comparison. Unfortunately, this vast amount of power was also their undoing.

They studied all of the Force's aspects: the light, the dark, and in between with multiple temples across different planets of the galaxy. They built structures and mechanics powered by the Force, Force-powered robotics, and more. One of the Zeffo became corrupt, bringing about their near extinction until the Zeffo fled, disappearing from the galaxy forever.

Yoda's Species

Little is known about Yoda's species, not even the name of his people. However, fans do know enough that his people are inherently strong in the Force, live for centuries honing their abilities, and are some of the most fearsome Jedi.

While Yoda is a great example of this, even young Grogu himself shows great and terrifying aptitude in the Force. A mere toddler by their standards and he can lift an entire Reek with his mind and Force-choke Cara Dune. Their capabilities, even from a young age, are absolutely out of this galaxy.
