With the release of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens now fully behind us, one wouldn’t expect to be seeing anything new on the promotional front. The past few months especially have been a full-on barrage of all things The Force Awakens and the last thing anyone would expect at this point is for Disney/LucasFilm to try and come up with new ways to get people into theaters.
With so many shattered records in the wake of the film’s short run thus far, screenings should be packed well into the new year, just in time for the hordes of new viewers who wanted to avoid the opening week crowds to start filing in. This, coupled with the great word of mouth that the film has been getting as of late, shouldn’t give anyone financially connected with the release cause to worry about getting people in to see it.
But, it is a festive time of year and as such, it’s always nice to get a little gift or in the case of Disney/LucasFilm, to give a little gift. Perhaps as a small thank you for all the fans who’ve long since stood by the franchise and helped take it to new heights, or maybe just part of the push to get fans to see the film in IMAX 3-D, AMC Theatres will be offering a free Star Wars print to anyone who attends a screening of The Force Awakens this Sunday. Check it out below:
As far as posters go, it’s a pretty basic one, filled with X-wing fighters speeding either home from or off to battle. At the base of the image, standing on the wing of his fighter and watching his comrades sail past is likely Poe (Oscar Isaac). The poster’s various shades of green and relatively small text set it apart from most of the promotional items we’ve seen thus far for the film. In other words, it’s unique, and surely every Star Wars memorabilia collector out there with access to an AMC theatre will be queuing up this weekend, regardless if they’ve already seen the film or not.
Considering that this weekend will have a high concentration of families together who have no shortage of downtime, the poster is a great additional incentive to head out for an IMAX 3-D screening. That is, if a brand new, highly praised Star Wars film, in 3-D on an IMAX screen isn’t enough for you – then yeah, the promise of a free Star Wars poster should hopefully sweeten the deal just enough.
Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is now in theaters, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16th, 2016, Star Wars: Episode VIII on May 26th, 2017, and the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25th, 2018. Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to reach theaters in 2019, followed by the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.
