In preparation for the biggest cinematic release of this year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney has been quite generous with its promotional campaign and marketing, releasing a bit of everything for every taste and need: from action figures, to video games, and even more functional objects – like a Darth Vader toaster. All this to help fans be prepared for the full Star Wars experience after ten years of not having a Star Wars movie on the big screen.
Among the products attached to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the play set for Disney Infinity 3.0. The toys-to-life sandbox video-game that has captivated adults and children alike will have a play set focused on J.J Abrams' take on the franchise from a galaxy far, far away. With just a few more weeks to go until the big day, Disney Interactive has unveiled the play set trailer, giving us a closer look at the new characters.
The Star Wars: The Force Awakens play set allows you to travel through the galaxy alongside old heroes from the original trilogy and the new ones we will meet when the movie comes out. The playable characters include Finn (played in the movie by John Boyega), a stormtrooper who leaves that life behind and is now on a path to adventure and danger. There's also Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, a scavenger from desert planet Jakku who is a truly resourceful and capable hero. Finally there's Poe Dameron, played by Oscar Isaac, a Resistance pilot who uses his expertise in flying to travel through the galaxy. These heroes will come across the main villain, Kylo Ren, an enforcer for the First Order who, as seen in the trailers, wants to carry on with Darth Vader's legacy.
The trailer recreates some scenes from the cinematic trailers and teasers and includes some previously unseen moments as well, like Poe Dameron running past some X-Wing starfighters, and Finn shooting at other stormtroopers while still wearing his trooper armour.
To enhance your Star Wars experience in Disney Infinity 3.0, there will be four power discs: Finn's stormtrooper armour, Poe Dameron's Resistance flight jacket, the Resistance Tactical Strike (which gives players the chance to count on the Resistance's help to fight the First Order with some additional heroes), and the Quad Jumper, which is all about exploring.
The play set, new figures, and Power Disc Pack will all be released on December 18, once the movie is finally out everywhere, giving us all the chance to go back home and continue the Star Wars experience. The game is compatible with Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Apple TV.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18th, 2015, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16th, 2016, Star Wars: Episode VIII on May 26th, 2017, and the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25th, 2018. Star Wars: Episode IX is expected to reach theaters in 2019, followed by the third Star Wars Anthology film in 2020.
