James Mangold's upcoming Star Wars movie focusing on the Dawn of the Jedi Order could completely alter the timeline of the Force-users. After being announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023 alongside two other films, Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi Star Wars movie sparked endless speculation. With little revealed about the film, many began theorizing on what elements of the Force could be explored in a project going back tens of thousands of years to the origins of the Jedi and their connection to the Force itself.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy may have revealed that the Dawn of the Jedi film will change the established timeline of the Order. In an interview on the Dagobah Dispatch podcast, Kennedy noted that Mangold's film will be "going back 25,000 years - could be even more!" These comments are interesting, especially the latter section, given that the Star Wars Timelines book states the Jedi Order began 25,000 years before Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. With Kennedy’s words, it could mean Mangold’s film will explore the years before this period, changing the established timeline of the Jedi Order entirely.

Besides the Dawn of the Jedi's timeline in Star Wars, little is known about the film itself. Speaking with Screen Rant, Mangold described his ideas for the film, saying he relished making a "Star Wars Zero... where was the Force born?" While addressing the media after the film's announcement at Star Wars Celebration 2023, Mangold described the film as a biblical epic of sorts, leaning into the philosophical, religious connotations of not just the Force itself, but the Jedi Order that formed around their discovery of such.

Given what is known about the Dawn of the Jedi timeline, the film's first official character may have been revealed. As seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and set to appear in Ahsoka in 2023, David Tennant's droid Huyang was revealed in Star Wars Timelines to have been powered up in 25,020 BBY, around the same time as the Dawn of the Jedi Order. Huyang is an architect droid who has taught Jedi how to construct lightsabers for generations, hinting at his appearance in the film. Other than these details and Kennedy’s comments on the timeline, though, little is known about Mangold's upcoming Star Wars film.
