New official information regarding Star Wars Eclipse confirms the game will have multiple playable characters, a branching narrative, and never-before-seen planets in the storied sci-fi universe. Details are rather scarce for the recently revealed game, but Quantic Dream has painted a bit of a picture of what Star Wars Eclipse will be. Given the studio is largely known for one kind of game with its cinematic Telltale-esque stories, many have been wondering just what shape the game will take.

Quantic Dream revealed Star Wars Eclipse with a trailer during The Game Awards, teasing the High Republic era, Yoda, and a darker tone. Quantic Dream is remaining mum on what the story is about, but it sounds like it'll be one of the more ambitious Star Wars titles in recent memory. Eclipse will be the first story outside of the books to properly tackle the High Republic era, meaning the developer has been entrusted with essentially visualizing what this part of the iconic universe looks like.

New details from the official Star Wars Eclipse website also gives some insight into how Quantic Dream will be tackling the game. It's already been rumored that Quantic Dream will be taking a more traditional approach with Star Wars Eclipse's gameplay, but that doesn't mean the developer is eliminating its tried and true approach to storytelling. The website confirms that the game will have multiple playable characters with their own "morality, personality, motivations" and a branching narrative. Similarly, Star Wars Eclipse will have never-before-seen species and planets that are "rife with opportunity and political tensions that could alter the fabric of peace".

It's unclear if this means Quantic Dream will almost be leaning into an RPG-style game like Knights of the Old Republic with multiple playable characters. The developer has frequently used multiple characters to weave in and out of a larger, connected story, but there's no telling how that will fit into a Star Wars game. It will likely be a while before fans find out as Star Wars Eclipse is still years away from releasing.

Disney and Lucasfilm are known to have a lot of control over the Star Wars universe, so it's unclear how Star Wars Eclipse's branching story will fit into the canon. Perhaps there will be a definitive ending that will impact the rest of the franchise, but it remains to be seen. Either way, Quantic Dream seems to be promising the kind of Star Wars game fans have been waiting for since EA took over the series roughly a decade ago.
