Count Dooku may appear as Yoda's Padawan in the upcoming game Star Wars Eclipse, as the game appears to be set toward the end of the High Republic era. Before he became a Sith Lord, Count Dooku was a Jedi Master and an integral part of the Jedi Order, studying under Grand Master Yoda before training Qui-Gon Jinn. With Star Wars Eclipse being set around the High Republic, fans may get to see a young Dooku training with Yoda, decades before he switched allegiances and became a Sith Lord.

While it's unclear where precisely Star Wars Eclipse falls on the timeline, it has been confirmed to take place during a point in the High Republic, a period when the Jedi and Republic were at their strongest and the Outer Rim territories were being explored. This Golden Age was, however, brought to an end during the beginning of the Star Wars prequels, which saw the beginning of the Clone Wars and the rise of the Empire. Dooku played a big part in these machinations as the understudy of Darth Sidious, using his political influence as the Count of Serenno to form the Confederacy of Independent Systems and, unknown to him, push Anakin Skywalker further into the clutches of the would-be Emperor.

Although its trailer featured prequel elements, Star Wars Eclipse's High Republic story will take place at least several decades before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace though, meaning there's a chance that it could depict Dooku as a Jedi before he left the Order. Further, because other pieces of canon like 2019's Dooku: Jedi Lost novel already covered Dooku's story behind leaving the Jedi Order, it may even be possible that the game could show him as Yoda's apprentice, or potentially even an ordinary Jedi Knight. This would provide a fascinating look into Dooku's backstory, especially since there's much we don't know of his time as a Jedi prior to him taking on Qui-Gon as a Padawan.

A Young Count Dooku Could Be Playable In Star Wars Eclipse

It's still unclear if Star Wars Eclipse will use Count Dooku, but if the game were to use him, then he may be best deployed as a playable character. As of right now, the only familiar Jedi confirmed to be in Star Wars Eclipse is Master Yoda, who can be seen in the trailer stood alone in the Jedi Council chambers. Yoda was already a Grand Master by the time of the High Republic, and had trained dozens of Jedi prior to taking on Dooku as a Padawan learner. The trailer doesn't provide a detailed look at Yoda, so it's difficult to tell just how old he may be in Star Wars Eclipse. However, his robes do look similar to the ones he sported in the prequels. This could mean that Count Dooku is either far along into his training as Yoda's apprentice, or that he may already be a master by the time the game's story takes place.

The latter possibility may be more likely given that Star Wars Eclipse will focus on multiple characters. It's possible that Dooku could feature as one of those playable characters, or even as a side character who could influence the story in a different way. Given that the events in Star Wars Eclipse may set the course for what is to happen later in the Star Wars canon, and given that Dooku is such a pivotal character in the prequel trilogy, it would make sense for him to have some role in the story.

However, with such little information on the game at the moment, it is impossible to tell whether Count Dooku will appear as one of the High Republic Jedi in Star Wars Eclipse. Lucasfilm Games hasn't revealed much about the project apart from what was seen at the Game Awards trailer, as well as a few other pieces of information given on the official Star Wars website. In any case, Star Wars Eclipse would be missing out on a big opportunity by not exploring Count Dooku's history as an apprentice.
