Warning! Spoilers for Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #13

Darth Maul’s assassin successor has been revealed in a Star Wars comic, and she’s going by the name Deathstick. She is making a strong impression right away given her association with the former Sith turned crime lord and his syndicate, Crimson Dawn.

Following the surprising return of Qi’ra in War of the Bounty Hunters, after she was first introduced in Solo: A Star Wars Story as a vital part of Maul’s crime syndicate Crimson Dawn, more connections are being revealed to the Star Wars underworld. Previously, little was known as to what happened to the crime empire after the events of Solo. However, fans knew that Maul would eventually meet his demise, as portrayed in the animated series Rebels, when he is discovered in a dark pit, abandoned to die, and later meets his end on Tatooine at the saber of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Since then, it seems that Crimson Dawn has lived on into the Original Trilogy era, as seen in Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #13, written by Ethan Sacks with art by Paolo Villanelli.

Amidst the current ongoing crossover War of the Bounty Hunters, a new assassin has shown up on the scene known as Deathstick. After the action involving Beilert Valance and Dengar comes to an end, she makes her debut in the final panel, peering down from a ledge. The issue name drops Crimson Dawn, indicating that she is working for the crime syndicate. Deathstick is presented as their own personal hit-woman, enforcing their rules as Maul once did, alluding that she is his successor in many ways. The next issue of Bounty Hunters is set to focus on the new mysterious figure, and is titled after her name, as she hunts Valance.

Seemingly named after “death sticks,” which are iconically known as Star Wars’ equivalent to hard drugs, as referenced in Attack of the Clones, Deathstick’s name seems to hint at some involvement with narcotics. Another connection to Episode II comes with her costume, which looks similar to Zam Wesell, who was hired by Jango Fett to assassinate Senator Padme Amidala. The purple of her suit, the face mask, and the overall fit, along with her choice of blaster almost feel like an homage to the shape-shifting bounty hunter.

While Qi’ra has made herself known as the new leader of Crimson Dawn, Deathstick has taken on a personal assassin role. For all readers know about her and Qi’ra at the moment, they could be one and the same person. With her elaborate disguise, it’s possible that Darth Maul taught her all he knew in his former life as a Sith, before they parted ways. It wouldn't be the first time that a love interest of Han Solo dressed as a mysterious bounty hunter. Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #14 promises to expand on what has happened to Crimson Dawn and releases on July 7.
