Obi-Wan Kenobi star Hayden Christensen believes there's still more story to tell with Darth Vader. The iconic villain has been a mainstay in popular culture since his introduction in the original Star Wars movie, going on to appear in several other films, TV shows, video games, and books. Over the course of the past four decades, audiences have seen Vader evolve into a complex character, watching his rise, fall, and ultimate redemption unfold onscreen. Vader once again has a central role in a Star Wars project via limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi, in which Christensen reprises his role from the prequels.

Considering how much of Vader's life has already been depicted in various Star Wars media, there seems to be very little ground left to cover. However, with how popular the character is, the allure of bringing him back will always be there unless Lucasfilm decides to fully move away from the Skywalker saga. As the studio continues to develop a number of movies and TV shows, some have expressed an interest in seeing a dedicated Vader spinoff show. Christensen himself would be up for it.

In an interview with Screen Rant to promote Obi-Wan Kenobi, Christensen was asked about his willingness to return as Vader again. The actor cited some of the publishing materials that could be used as a jumping off point to tell more stories. Check out his response in the space below:

"I don't know. I can't answer that question. I certainly would love to continue with this character, and I feel like there's more there to do. But we'll see... In preparing for this, I did as much research as I could. And I got to read some of these Darth Vader comics, these standalone comics that just focus on Darth Vader, and [there's] some really interesting stuff there. I don't know. But yeah, I would love to get to do this again."

Darth Vader In Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 3

The key, as with any Star Wars project, is to find a worthwhile narrative to focus on. Vader works in Obi-Wan Kenobi because his role connects to Obi-Wan's personal trauma, and it feels like an organic continuation of the prequels with the Sith Lord ruthlessly hunting down his former master. Any future appearance would need to aim for something similar, adding to the mythos and fleshing out the character further. At times, Disney's Star Wars has been criticized for relying too heavily on fan service, and having Vader return again just for the sake of it could fall victim to that. A series that follows Vader in the early days of the Empire's reign could be compelling. Such a show could potentially add depth to his dynamic with Emperor Palpatine. Even immediately after his turn in Revenge of the Sith, Anakin was plotting a way to overthrow Palpatine, so there could be fertile ground for an interesting story there.

For his part, Christensen isn't done with Star Wars just yet. He is reportedly reprising Anakin in the upcoming Ahsoka series, where he presumably will appear in flashbacks or as a Force ghost. Whether or not he plays Vader again remains to be seen. Unless he has a surprise appearance in this summer's Andor, there doesn't seem to be a natural spot for him in Lucasfilm's current lineup. Of course, they could announce a new project at some point, though a case can be made it's time for the studio to let Star Wars' legacy characters rest and start telling stories about new people for audiences to fall in love with. It's great Christensen is game to continue being in Star Wars after Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it feels like everything has now come full circle.
