Warning! Potential spoilers for Star Wars: Revelations #1 ahead! The Eye of Webbish Bog, an alien creature cut from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, is granting Darth Vader visions of the future. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker saw Kylo Ren head to Mustafar, where he discovered Darth Vader's lost Sith Wayfinder. One concept was cut from the film, a Force creature that would have linked Kylo Ren directly to Darth Vader; the Eye of Webbish Bog, entrusted with guarding Darth Vader's secrets.

The Eye of Webbish Bog was incorporated into Star Wars canon courtesy of Rae Carson's novelization of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and the creature has since appeared in several tie-in comics. It seems to have been an inhabitant of Mustafar, one well acquainted with the ways of the Sith, and it only became Darth Vader's servant after he impressed it by confirming his potential dark side power. It seems the Eye of Webbish Bog will play a major role going forward, though, because the creature will grant Darth Vader visions of the future in a coming one-shot teasing Marvel's Star Wars plans for 2023.

Star Wars: Revelations #1, by Marc Guggenheim, Salvador Larroca, Pere Pérez, Emma Kubert, Justin Mason, and Paul Fry, will be published on November 23 and will see the Eye of Webbish Bogg unveil the future to Darth Vader. The Sith have always been obsessed with prophecy; unlike the Jedi, they believe their sheer force of will can wrest control of the future, shaping it according to their desires. According to Marvel, the one-shot will be set among the lava pools of Mustafar but will see visions of all the different comics:

"Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Lando Calrissian and the Rebel Alliance are struggling to thwart the Galactic Empire’s stranglehold on countless worlds. Vader ruthlessly hunts for those who stand against the Empire, aided by none other than Sabé—former handmaiden of his lost love, Padmé Amidala. Beilert Valance finds himself on a collision course against his former partner T’onga and her crew of bounty hunters. The Spark Eternal, an archaic technology that grants users Sith-like powers...has taken control of archaeologist Doctor Chelli Aphra. And Lady Qi’ra, leader of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate, is ready to unleash an ambitious offensive aimed at destroying the Sith and wrenching power from the hands of the Empire."

How Much Will Darth Vader Learn About His Future?

In truth, the Eye of Webbish Bog is simply serving as a convenient plot device. The creature's dark side visions are an opportunity for Marvel Comics to hint at its future plans - an approach the publisher has done before, but not with Star Wars. This time round, the nature of the Force itself means the publisher doesn't need to worry too much about locking things down; the future is always in motion, after all, meaning the Eye of Webbish Bog's visions could easily change.

But this does, of course, raise intriguing questions about how much Darth Vader knew about his future by the time of Return of the Jedi. There's no reason to assume this was the last time he visited the Eye of Webbish Bog, especially if the visions it granted him helped him navigate various crises in the galaxy. It's quite possible Darth Vader knew his son Luke would find his way to the Second Death Star - but no doubt he was unaware of his redemption, which brought a triumphant end to the Star Wars original trilogy.
