This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: Revelations #1.In a new adventure, Star Wars has finally revealed the true dark side power of the Eye of Webbish Bog, Darth Vader's mysterious ally on Mustafar. The planet Mustafar has long been a dark vergence in the Force, making it the perfect home for Darth Vader. A cut scene from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, restored into canon through Rae Carson's novelization, revealed Darth Vader was not the only dark sider who lived on Mustafar: there was also an enigmatic creature called the Eye of Webbish Bog.

The true origin of the Eye of Webbish Bog is a mystery. Comics have revealed this being had lain in a Force-assisted slumber for an unknown amount of time, only to be awoken when Darth Vader battled Palpatine's assassin Ochi of Bestoon near the Eye's lair. This monstrous creature was essentially Darth Vader's nearest neighbor, and it became his trusted ally, even keeping Vader's Sith Wayfinder until it was eventually retrieved by Supreme Leader Kylo Ren.

Star Wars: Revelation finally reveals the true power of the Eye of Webbish Bog. Written by Marc Guggenheim, and featuring art by a wide range of Marvel artists, the one-shot sees Darth Vader receive a vision of the future - one that warns him of the potential end of the Force itself. It seems the Eye has an appropriate name, because this entity has the ability to peer through the mists of time: it can see all that was, all that is, and every possible future.

The Dark Side's Vision Of The Future Is Flawed

Millennia ago, there were Force-sensitive prophets who could see the future with an astounding degree of accuracy. Their teachings have had a massive impact on the galaxy, with one prophecy even foretelling the coming of a Chosen One who would somehow bring balance to the Force. But the schism between the Jedi and the Sith appears to have caused both groups to lose this kind of ancient Jedi prophecy. Master Yoda famously insisted the future is always in motion, and the Eye of Webbish Bog shares the same view. The creature cautions Darth Vader that he is only glimpsing possibilities, not things that will definitely happen.

It's likely true prophecy is associated with balance in the Force. Servants of the light side find their visions of the future restricted by the darkness, and the inverse seems true for dark side prophets. This would explain why both Jedi and Sith - not to mention the Eye of Webbish Bog - are unable to see the future with certainty - they can only see events associated with the aspect of the Force they serve. However, despite the Eye of Webbish Bog's limitations, its power to literally see the potential future has armed Darth Vader with valuable intel likely to influence the next few years of Star Wars stories.
