One of the most visually striking elements of the marketing campaign for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was that of Rey's apparent dark side appearance. And we have an exclusive close-up look at Dark Rey's all-new double-bladed lightsaber from the upcoming book, Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection.

Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection from Insight Editions and by author Daniel Wallace is a comprehensive visual collection and deep dive into the weapons from a "more civilized age" - including lightsaber hilts from the movies, animated TV shows, comics, and video games. It includes beautifully rendered illustrations by Star Wars artists Ryan Valle and Lukasz Liszko along with tales on each weapon's origin.

Reminiscent of Darth Maul's iconic Sith weapon from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Dark Rey's crimson bladed lightsaber features a unique swing hinge, and that's all that was really showcased in its brief appearance in The Rise of Skywalker, proving to be more of a tease than anything else. We're able to exclusive offer a few more details however on this vision, thanks to Insight Edition's book coming October 20th.

Dark Rey's Lightsaber Description

Rey grew up thinking of herself as nobody special, but Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker upends those assumptions by revealing her true heritage as the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine. Discovering her connection to the galaxy's most powerful Sith Lord gives Rey a crisis of faith, forcing her to grapple with the question of whether she is fated to follow a similarly dark path.

The most dramatic expression of Rey's inner conflict comes during her exploration of the Death Star's wreckage and manifests as a cracked-mirror duplicate of herself as an agent of evil. This dark side phantasm carries a double-bladed crimson lightsaber equipped with a unique swing hinge.

The metallic hilt's silver sheen is discolored by carbonized blackening around the emitter shrouds. Black rings break up the hilt's uneven surface. When folded in half, both blades can be ignited in parallel, and with the flick of a wrist, the hilt can swing fully open and lock into place as a saberstaff.
