Producer Dave Filoni has further teased the connection between Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the SithThe Clone Wars is widely considered one of the best pieces of Star Wars canon, taking place after Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and filling in more information regarding the franchise's prequel era. It's also responsible for introducing fan favorite characters like Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein), whose voice even made a cameo in Star Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerWhile The Clone Wars came to an untimely end following season 6 in 2014, it was announced last year that Disney+ would feature the seventh and final season of the show, giving it a proper send-off. The first episode debuted on Friday, February 21, with new episodes debuting every week on Friday.

One of the trailers for The Clone Wars season 7 hinted that the series would overlap with the events of Revenge of the Sith in multiple ways. At one pivotal moment, Mace Windu (Terrence Carson) utters the line "I sense a plot to destroy the Jedi." This is one of the lines Mace (played by Samuel L. Jackson in the live-action films) says in Revenge of the Sith. Because of that, it's been assumed the events of The Clone Wars will finally intersect with the third prequel film.

This was seemingly confirmed by Filoni while talking to io9. Filoni danced around an outright confirmation, but he said, "Yeah, I won’t say a lot about [that]. I definitely will say that I don’t think Mace is a person [who] repeats himself." Furthermore, Filoni added that he has "always, always been interested in a crossover point with the films when it got right down to it at the very end."

The overlap with Revenge of the Sith might also lead to some shortened roles for certain characters who have prominent roles in that film, like Anakin (Matt Lanter), Obi-Wan (James Arnold Taylor), and Padmé (Catherine Taber). Filoni explained, "There were certain choices to make in this because, well, I wanted to represent the major characters of the film—in Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padmé—[and] I didn’t want to do anything in these last episodes that would interrupt or contradict what happens with them in [Revenge of the Sith]."

The connection between The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith won't come as much of a surprise to fans based on the trailer reveals and The Clone Wars' timeline. Since this is the final season of The Clone Wars, it seemed inevitable that its events would lead right up to that film. Considering how invested fans are in The Clone Wars' characters, it's a relief to know that they will finally get the proper endings they deserve. It will also be exciting to see how characters like Ahsoka and Captain Rex (Dee Bradley Baker) will be affected by the events of Revenge of the Sith. Ahsoka's storyline is bound to be especially poignant since Ahsoka is Anakin's apprentice. Now that The Clone Wars season 7 has begun, fans won't have to wait much longer to see how it all unfolds.
