Star Wars: The Clone Wars director Dave Filoni says that he and George Lucas have discussed why the surviving Jedi went into hiding after the events of Order 66. Within the Star Wars lore, fans know that most of the Jedi were killed leading up to the fall of the Galactic Republic, but some went into hiding.

In the final act of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Chancellor Palpatine, aka Darth Sidious tells the clones to execute Order 66. The order branded the Jedi as traitors and enemies of the Republic, and that they should be executed immediately. This is known as one of the most infamous events in Star Wars history, as it sees the deaths of hundreds of heroes and is the backdrop for Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader. There are, however, several Jedi who managed to survive the massacre, notably Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. They would go on to train a young Luke Skywalker and teach him the ways of the Force.

For years fans have wondered why the Jedi who survived Order 66 remained in hiding and what they might have done between Episode III and Episode IV. In an interview with Deadline, Dave Filoni revealed that he and Star Wars creator George Lucas had discussed this. Most Jedi felt like they had been deceived and failed to protect the Republic. "...a lot of them realized that fighting a war maybe isn’t the best way and created violence," says Filoni. "They set their sabers down, they tried to find different paths to helping people than perhaps, you know, being violent, and so there is an old idea there."

Order 66 has since been represented in different media. In the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Order 66 was shown from the perspective of padawan Cal Kestis. He was saved by his master Jaro Tapal, who was killed helping Cal escape. Dave Filoni recently introduced his own version of Order 66 in The Clone Wars. In the final two episodes of the series, "Shattered" and "Victory and Death," it's revealed how former Jedi Ahsoka Tano and Commander Rex survived the event.

As Ahsoka Tano had left the Jedi Order before Order 66, she was already in the process of finding her identity outside of the Order. Based on the events Star Wars Rebels, we know that Ahsoka continues to do good and aids the rebellion. Ahsoka's actions in both series highlight the idea that fighting and violence isn't always the best way to help others. Even though Star Wars: The Clone Wars is over and Rebels likely won't get another season, fans are hoping to see Ahsoka again. The character will reportedly make her live-action debut in season 2 of The Mandalorian, played by Rosario Dawson. As Dave Filoni helped develop Ahsoka and remains an essential figure in the future of Star Wars, it is likely fans haven't seen the last of the beloved character.
