The upcoming finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will act as George Lucas's final contribution to the Star Wars universe. After years off the air, The Clone Wars will return to screens for its wrap-up season. When Disney purchased Star Wars they cut the program short, leaving much of the in-development story untold. Since then, there have been fervent efforts, largely online, on the part of the fan base to revive it. At last their collective voice has been heard, as this month Lucas's animated addition to the prequel era of his galaxy far, far away will reach its logical conclusion.

George Lucas worked very closely with Dave Filoni, who would go on to produce more television content such as Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Resistance, on the series throughout its original run from 2008-2014. The hallmark of the show was its ability to flesh out many of the ideas, characters, and worlds established in the prequel trilogy, more than they could have been in the films alone.

The prequel trilogy is commonly cited as Lucas's truest vision for Star Wars, both in terms of the lore behind it and its sleek, futuristic design elements. The Clone Wars proved to  aid in fulfilling Lucas's vision outside the confines of the traditional cinematic format.

Disney of course completed the animation for the final season and has put in the heavier work, but Lucas gave the seal of approval on it long before the sale was completed.  Not every planned arc will make it to streaming; in fact, some have made their way to the pages of books and comics in the meantime. At any rate, the episodes that will air were from the mind of Lucas and his team at the time. Unaired and highly anticipated episodes like "The Bad Batch" and "The Siege of Mandalore" will be attributed to him creatively speaking. The upcoming episodes were well on their way to being completed prior to the abrupt end of the show, so what audiences will watch on February 21st came straight from Lucas's head.

By releasing season 7, Disney is finally revealing what is effectively George Lucas's last gift to the fans. He will be credited as the creator of The Clone Wars, so it is only fitting that he ultimately gets the final word even if he himself hasn't been responsible for the program in over half a decade. This is the last piece of media in the series with his fingerprints on it and is arguably one of the pieces of Star Wars media that is closest to what he wanted the franchise to be since the very beginning. In many ways this really does mark the end of the Skywalker Saga, definitively laying to rest the Star Wars of the George Lucas era.
