Star Wars: The Clone Wars has Ahsoka Tano live-out a story many fans expected to see in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Spice running has become a staple of the Star Wars underworld. Though it hasn't been seen much on-screen, it has been a common venture for the series' criminal enterprises. It has long been established as a big part of Han Solo's seedy past. Despite this, his infamous failed spice delivery wasn't a part of the heavily-reshot Solo movie.
As mentioned in Star Wars: A New Hope, Han Solo's last spice run for Jabba the Hutt didn't go very smoothly. On his way to his employer, he dumped the payload to avoid getting caught by the Empire, who would have thrown him in prison had they caught him. This is where his debt to the gangster originated. When Solo: A Star Wars Story was announced, there were a handful of expected moments. From meeting Chewbacca to flying the Millennium Falcon, even his business dealings with Jabba were considered a given. The movie never came through on that aspect of the story, or his failed spice run, although their first meeting was teased at the end.
While we didn't see it happen in Solo: A Star Wars Story, something very similar happened to Ahsoka in The Clone Wars season 7's second story arc. In episode 6, "Deal No Deal", Ahsoka, Rafa, and Trace Martez leave the 1313 level of Coruscant for a job. Their work is a touchy subject, as they're running spice for the Kessel-based crime syndicate. Ahsoka believes they shouldn't take the job on moral grounds while Rafa only considers the money. Caught in the middle is Trace, who's scared of losing her ship. On their way to deliver the product, an argument breaks out between Ahsoka and Rafa over their conflicting stances. In the heat of this war of words, Trace releases the spice into space, finally showing us a spice dump, 43 years after it was referenced in the original Star Wars.
While many people expected Han dumping spice to be a plot point in Solo: A Star Wars Story, its placement in the Star Wars timeline meant it was far too early, since Han wouldn't get a price on his head attracting bounty hunters like Greedo for another decade. It could have been the subject of a Solo 2, although given the standalone movie's box office struggles, that's currently looking unlikely (even as fans campaign for a Disney+ show).
While the Expanded Universe used to treat a lot of references from the original Star Wars trilogy as commonplace occurrences, it's clear from the many stories in canon that spice doesn't just get dumped on a whim. While it may have been more impressive for Ahsoka, Trace, and Rafa to successfully navigate the Kessel Run in a comparable number of parsecs to Han Solo, they still have something much less brag-worthy in common with the famous smuggler.
