With the release of Tales of the Jedi, Star Wars fans got to see fan-favorite characters Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano in a new light, revealing backstory to both characters that many may not have known before.

Tales of the Jedi did an amazing job condensing small, important stories to these characters in less time than a regular episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Given that the animation was done in a similar style as the hit series, it gives way to the chance that other shorts could one day be released about other fan-favorite characters.

10 General Grievous

General Grievous with his duel lightsabers.

The sinister leader of the droid army hasn't received much screen time, appearing in only a handful of episodes in The Clone Wars. Despite this, he has a massive fanbase and a backstory that could easily be turned into a short.

In The Clone Wars, Grievous mentions his hatred for the Jedi but doesn't go into detail, leaving his backstory only clear in books and comics. Given that this backstory not only shows off his hatred for the Jedi, but also how he became a cyborg, this would be a story that fans would love to see fully animated, especially given that Tales of the Jedi showed that showrunner Dave Filoni is more than happy to show off these characters' stories even before The Clone Wars.

9 Hondo Ohnaka

Hondo is probably the smartest pirate in the galaxy, being able to play both sides to earn a profit but knowing when to quit and actually working with the Jedi several times.

Not only could Hondo pull off his own TV series, but he could also pull off his own short. His charismatic, conniving nature could easily come into play, especially when telling a story about how he became the leader of his gang. Fans have seen both his good side and his bad side, and seeing how he became the lovable, iconic character that he is would be a welcome sight.

8 Cad Bane

Cad Bane

Cad Bane is one of the best bounty hunters in the Star Wars galaxy and became instantly iconic thanks to is cowboy/gunslinger attire and personality. But little is known about his past, other than small bits revealed in comics.

Cad Bane is such a popular character that it makes even more sense to use him in a short like Tales of the Jedi. He's the best bounty hunter in the galaxy at the time of the Clone Wars, and this status does not come easily. It would make for an interesting story to see a challenging hunt for Bane that would help cement him as the greatest bounty hunter out there.

7 The Bad Batch

The Bad Batch Star Wars

The Clone Wars, they're already a tight team with an extremely high success rate. But it's hard to imagine that they were always like this.

Even clones like the Bad Batch need training and time to get accustomed to each other's unique abilities. This goes double for this team when each member has a wild personality, especially Wrecker and Crosshair. A short showing the origins of the Bad Batch would give fans a fun, wild story to enjoy even as the squad continues their own adventures in Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

6 Captain Rex

Star Wars The Clone Wars Captain Rex

Captain Rex is easily one of the most popular characters introduced in the series, making him the obvious choice for use in a short.

Rex has great relationships with his brothers in the army as well as the Jedi he works alongside. Throughout the war, he sees a lot and has been through a lot. Any number of stories could show off a different side of the character that fans haven't seen before, be it on the battlefield or off it. Perhaps even a story showing how he met up with his fellow clones after Order 66 would please the fans.

5 Pre Vizsla

The Darksaber Pre Vizla Clone Wars

Mandalore is involved in many of the best episodes in The Clone Wars, mostly due to Deathwatch, the organization led by Pre Vizsla trying to restore Mandalore to its warrior ways.

Pre Vizsla is strong about his ideals, his honor, and his desire to return to Mandalore's old ways and can fight off even Jedi thanks to the legendary Darksaber. Seeing how he became leader of Deathwatch in full animation, as well as who he had to go through to acquire such a powerful weapon, would make for a very interesting short filled with epic, honorable combat. Fans always love seeing Mandalorians battle if previous projects like The Mandalorian are anything to go by, and this kind of short gives even more Mandalorian combat for all to enjoy.

4 Asajj Ventress

Asajj Ventress prepares to fight Dooku

Ventress is one of the best characters in the Clone Wars series, as well as one with a tragic backstory. Fans saw some of this in the show, but much of it still hasn't seen animated adaptions yet.

Backstory for Ventress isn't the only thing possible for a short of her. After the fall of the Nightsisters, Ventress became a bounty hunter and then worked once again to try to kill Count Dooku. While the latter story is far too expansive to be faithfully adaptive for just one short, a simple story about Ventress' adventures in bounty hunting seems far more likely, especially if it gives way for a character development moment for her.

3 Boba Fett

Boba Fett in Cut Clone Wars Animated Series Scene

Most people only know Boba Fett from his appearances during the Original Trilogy and in the years following the fall of the Empire, but he was also around during the Clone Wars and caused quite a bit of problems for the Republic.

Boba had many adventures during the Clone Wars, including an operation where he teamed up with Cad Bane and several other bounty hunters in an arc cut from the show. This gives off a lot of content to be used for a short. Obviously, the cut arc is too massive to be summed up to fans' likings, but with enough creative talent, any number of stories could be crafted to show a story about Boba that deserves to be told.

2 Cut Lawquane

Captain Rex comes across a clone who has deserted from the Galatic Republic named Cut Luquane in the Clone Wars

Cut was a deserter who fled from the war and settled down on Saleucami. Little is known about the experiences Cut went through that caused him to desert, which makes it the perfect story to tell in a short.

Cut mentioned that his ship was shot down by droids, and he had to flee to survive while the droids cut down any surviving troopers in the crash. Such a tragic story can only be told so much in words. Given that Cut is a character that has outlasted the Clone Wars and there is still little known about the incident that made him desert, it would make a great, survival-like story to show in a short how he escaped, made it to Saleucami, and fell in love with his wife.

1 Gregor

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Clone Commando Captain Gregor fights off waves of battle droids to save D-Squad

Gregor is a clone commando that was left stranded on Abafar and has made several appearances all the way up to his death in the finale of Star Wars Rebels. But that still leaves out one crucial part in the story of this soldier.

One of the biggest questions that still remain in the minds of fans is how Gregor not only survived the explosion on Abafar, but also how he made his escape and return back to the Republic. A short would be the perfect way to reveal this tale, giving audiences closure on Gregor's story and finally answering the question of his survival without using plot armor as an excuse.
