Both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels produced a load of fantastic original characters, some of whom crossed over into both series such as Captain Rex, Ahsoka Tano, Kanan Jarrus (very briefly), and Bo-Katan Kryze. Bo-Katan is another in a long line of fantastic Mandalorian characters born into Star Wars, and fans hope her season seven Clone Wars appearance is not her last.

The sister of Satine is a brilliant character, performed excellently by Katee Sackhoff, and there is a lot to the character when you pay attention. Here are ten facts everyone should know about Bo-Katan Kryze.

WESTAR-35 Blaster Pistols

The Mandalorians are a culture of combat, of warriors, and so their armor and weapons are an important part of who they are.

As such, the importance of blasters to Mandalorias like Bo-Katan Kryze cannot go understated. The WESTAR-35 blaster pistol is a common choice of Mandalorians, including Pre Vizla, Sabine Wren, Ursa Wren, Gar Saxon, and Bo-Katan Kryze.

An Unnamed Sibling

Satine Kryze is the sister of Bo-Katan and, while they are opposites in terms of their ideology, but are amazing characters with a unique dynamic.

Their nephew, Korkie, makes a couple of appearances, but Korkie's parents never do. The sister's sibling never appears in The Clone Wars and is yet to receive a name in the canon.

First Kryze To Wield The Darksaber

Bo-Katan rejects the Darksaber in Star Wars Rebels

The Darksaber is a legendary weapon in Star Wars and one that, thus far, has not had many wielders. One of the lucky few to have the honor of wielding the blade is Bo-Katan.

She is the first of Clan Kryze to have the blade - in the current canon - with Clan Vizla being the owners more often than not, and Sabine Wren briefly holding it, with a couple of non-Mandalorians getting their hands on it.

Regent Of Mandalore

Bo-Katan Kryze watches over the battle on Mandalore in Star Wars the Clone Wars

Bo-Katan's appearance in The Clone Wars' season seven Siege of Mandalore arc was phenomenal, and she had a big role in the entire journey, with Mandalore left close to ruins after its events.

Following this arc, Mandalore needed a leader, and Bo-Katan stepped up. Bo-Katan became the Regent of Mandalore, by order of the Jedi before Order 66, up until the point where she refused to fall in line with the Empire and was betrayed by Clan Saxon, with Gar Saxon taking her place as Mandalore's leader.

Leader Of The Mandalore Resistance

Long before these events, of course, Bo-Katan was a lieutenant in Death Watch, acting against the pacifist nature Mandalore had adopted under the rule of Bo-Katan's sister, Duchess Satine.

When Maul took rule over Mandalore, Death Watch split, with Maul's super commandos, and another group led by Bo-Katan Kryze called the Mandalore Resistance, also known as Mandalorian Rebels.

Not Originally Scheduled For Her First Appearance

Bo-Katan's debut came in the fourteenth episode of season four, "A Friend In Need," in which she is a minor character, not quite who fans know her as now.

In the original script for the episode, Bo-Katan is not included in the episode. However, having plans for her in the famously good fifth season of the show, Dave Filoni put her in the episode as a precursor.

Who She Is Named After

Dave Filoni

Bo-Katan has a pretty distinct name, and one that is known well by pretty much every and any Clone Wars or Rebels fan, especially as being a Kryze and sister of Satine.

How she got the name, though, is quite unique. Filoni named her in homage to his wife Anne's cat. His wife called the cat "boogie," and so Filoni derived Bo-Katan from boogie-cat-Anne. Creative, if anything.

Leader Of The Nite Owls

Bo-Katan is a very skilled warrior, and immensely loyal to Mandalore and her ideologies, hence her high ranking place in Death Watch. As well as Lieutenant, though, Bo-Katan had another important role to play.

She was the leader of the Nite Owls. The Nite Owls were an elite group that joined Pre Vizla and the Death Watch after their exile, and Bo-Katan became their leader. Following the split of Death Watch, the Nite Owls also split, with some siding with Maul and his forces on Mandalore, while others sided as rebels with Bo-Katan.

How She Got Her Name In Universe

Obi-Wan and Satine say goodbye to one another on Coruscant in The Clone Wars

As mentioned earlier, Bo-Katan has a very well known and recognizable name, and while her getting named after Filoni's wife Anne's cat is a good story, it is not how she got it in the universe.

The Bo in Bo-Katan actually came from none other than her sister Satine. Growing up, Satine affectionately called her sister Bo, and the name stuck, with Bo-Katan going with it for the rest of her life.

We Do Not Know Where She Is Or How She Lost The Darksaber

Moff Gideon wields the Darksaber in The Mandalorian.

As fans of The Mandalorian know, Bo-Katan is not currently in possession of the Darksaber despite what we see in Star Wars Rebels. The blade lies with Gideon with no knowledge as of yet how he got it.

On top of that, we currently do not know what has happened to Bo-Katan, and whether she is alive or dead. The Mandalorian's season finale hinted at the latter since Gideon holds the Darksaber; however, fans haven't lost hope for Bo-Katan.
