Even with the release of The Mandalorian on Disney Plus, Star Wars, for the time being, is on hiatus. The Rise of Skywalker brought the sequel trilogy and the Skywalker saga to a satisfying conclusion, giving fans the final act of a story that started way back in 19777 with A New Hope. And, in the years since that first blockbuster hit theaters, we've been introduced to many intriguing and memorable characters.

Not all of them got to interact with each other, however. Many fans wanted to see certain characters from either the original or prequel trilogy interact with the newcomers, but sadly this never happened. Here's a look at ten pairings of Star Wars character - whether Rebellion or Imperial - who could have had great chemistry together but unfortunately didn't.

Mace Windu & Luke Skywalker

During his Jedi training, Luke Skywalker needed help. At first he received guidance from Obi-Wan Kenobi, who he met on Tatooine. And, following the death of the Jedi Knight, he encountered Master Yoda on the planet of Dagobah in an attempt to further his understanding of the force.

But it would have been great to see him interact with Mace Windu. Windu was a wise Jedi during the prequel trilogy yet was killed by Palpatine following a failed arrest of the Sith Lord on Coruscant. He could have been a vital mentor for Luke but didn't appear as a force ghost - which sparked rumours he's still alive. After all, Darth Maul somehow survived losing his lower half in The Phantom Menace. Speaking of which...

Count Dooku & Darth Maul

In the Star Wars comics, Count Dooku and Darth Maul do interact. The latter attempts to convince Darth Sidious' apprentice into joining forces to wipe out the Sith Lord but Dooku declines the offer. However, given they didn't even meet in the movies or in the Clone Wars TV series, we feel they're a double act fit for this list.

Imagine if they had both put their dark, warped minds together. That would have spelled trouble for Darth Sidious, who eventually betrayed them both. This feels like a missed, villainous opportunity - especially given how popular Maul has become in the years since he first appeared in 1999.

Qui-Gon Jinn & Darth Vader

Sure, we know Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Vader interacted when the villain was actually Anakin Skywalker. Qui-Gon rescued the Chosen One from a lifetime of suffering on Tatooine and was his first Jedi mentor. Unfortunately, Liam Neeson's character couldn't train Anakin due to the fact he dies at the hands of Darth Maul.

In Revenge of the Sith, it's established that Qui-Gon has learnt how to become a force ghost. Disappointingly, though, he didn't confront Anakin over his fall to the Dark Side. Anakin always had a turbulent relationship with Obi-Wan but, had Qui-Gon got involved, his descent into villainy may have been prevented.

Leia Organa & Padme Amidala

Leia Organa was a revolutionary character when she first appeared in the original Star Wars. At the time, female characters in sci-fi adventures were usually portrayed as weak or in need of a man to rescue them. In contrast, Leia, with her fiery attitude and defiant spirit, was a breath of fresh air.

Padme Amidala was the same during George Lucas' prequel trilogy and it would have been great to see the mother and daughter both in action at some point. Unfortunately that didn't happen, with Padme dying shortly after giving birth.

Chewbacca & Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren and Chewbacca didn't actually have a direct scene together. The closest thing fans got to getting that was when Chewbacca shot the villain from a distance shortly after the death of Han Solo in The Force Awakens. Given how there was plenty of yards between them, however, this doesn't really count.

Chewbacca knew Kylo Ren as a boy growing up and, therefore, it would have been emotional to see them speak together. This could have been a way of getting Ben Solo to turn back to his old self but when that didn't happen in The Rise of Skywalker, many considered it to be a crying shame.

Yoda & Rey

Yoda is the wisest Jedi there ever was, with even Obi-Wan Kenobi awed by the power and intelligence of the former Master. However, it's a shame that he wasn't willing to help Rey during her fight to keep the galaxy at peace and the vile First Order at bay.

It would make sense that Yoda would help Rey given how he was a mentor to Luke Skywalker - both before and after his death. This, again, felt like an oversight on Disney's behalf. Just where were the force ghosts during Rey and the Resistance's big hour of need?

Anakin Skywalker & Kylo Ren

For a long time, Kylo Ren was convinced he was hearing the voice of Darth Vader inside his head. In The Rise of Skywalker, though, it's revealed that it was actually the voice of Emperor Palpatine, who was manipulating him from afar.

This is where Darth Vader, or the force ghost of Anakin Skywalker, should have gone to Kylo to talk to him out of the Dark Side, possibly giving Anakin a bit more redemption. Again, this is something fans wanted but they were deprived of. Anakin's absence from the sequel trilogy is a mystery that only raised more questions than answers.

Emperor Palpatine & General Hux

General Hux in The Force Awakens wasn't a man you'd want to trifle with. He was immediately compared to Grand Moff Tarkin after his debut, especially given how he'd endorsed mass murder on a major scale with a planet-killer. Tarkin was, of course, a big ally to Emperor Palpatine prior to his death.

When it was revealed that Palpatine would be returning for The Rise of Skywalker, many hoped that he'd enlist the help of Hux. However, the duo didn't share a scene together with General Alliegant Pryde instead being Palpatine's loyal general. He unceremoniously murders Hux in cold blood but is killed in an equally lackluster manner at the end of the movie.

Supreme Leader Snoke & Luke Skywalker

Snoke Luke

While Supreme Leader Snoke was merely a pawn in Emperor Palpatine's twisted game, but he's still interesting enough as a character. Though the sequel trilogy is now over, fans are still eager to find out more about him.

A showdown between Luke and Snoke was wanted by all prior to the release of The Last Jedi - and some even hoped a battle between the pair would take place after their deaths. This didn't happen, with Palpatine instead facing off against Rey and with Luke or Snoke nowhere to be seen.

Luke, Han & Leia Reunited

Sure, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Leia Organa had plenty of scenes together throughout the sequel trilogy, but they still make this list because Disney's failure to give the trio a single scene together the biggest missed opportunity not just for the franchise, but perhaps in cinematic history.

Everybody flocked to their local movie theater for The Force Awakens, hoping to see these beloved galactic heroes all up to their old tricks but Disney chose to kill off Han right away and hold Luke back for a teaser scene. To be fair, Leia did meet up with Han and Luke on separate occasions, but the original trio never shared a scene together. With Carrie Fisher passing in 2016, the reunion that fans wanted the most never came to pass.
