There are some Star Wars characters that are so awesome they deserve their own video game. Star Wars has shown time and again that it had carry many different genres of games, from action-packed FPS adventures and story-rich RPGs to real-time strategy and racing games. Some Star Wars games have even introduced new characters in the galaxy far, far away that have gone on to become beloved fan favorites.

Star Wars is a universe packed full of interesting and exciting characters, many of whom could carry their own video game with ease. There have been some brilliant characters who would benefit from their own games to either further their story or fill in much-needed backstories. While the game series Star Wars: Jedi tells Cal Kestis' story and the Star Wars: Jedi Knight series told Kyle Katarn's in Legends, there are plenty of other characters who would also benefit from similar treatment in their own games.

10 Hondo Ohnaka

Hondo Ohnaka takes aim with his blaster

The Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka might seem a strange place to start, but Hondo is an example of a character that started as a one-time villain and turned into a huge fan favorite. Hondo first appeared in The Clone Wars animated series when he and his pirate crew captured Count Dooku. However, fans responded well to his strange sense of humor and unashamedly greedy ways, meaning he was brought back time and again throughout the series before properly returning in Star Wars Rebels.

Hondo has a surprisingly rich backstory, and he had his own pirate crews at different points throughout Star Wars history, making him a great choice for a game packed with comedic elements. Players could join Hondo on his adventures during the Clone Wars as he dodges Jedi trying to stop his schemes in a more stealth-based game. Another great idea would be Hondo trying to rebuild after the rise of the Empire in a chaotic Grand Theft Auto type of gameplay.

9 Poe Dameron

Poe Dameron stands in front of his ship with his helmet over his arm

Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron was one of the highlights of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. The charismatic and confident pilot showed his skills and his heart time and again as he faced off against the First Order. However, while being one of the movie's main characters, very few details about his backstory were revealed during the trilogy, something which a game could fix easily.

While the movies touched briefly on aspects of Poe's past and comics have expanded on them, a game would allow players to experience them firsthand. A Poe game could combine flight simulator combat with FPS elements to flesh out his life before the Resistance. Letting players experience his Star Wars journey from the Spice Runners of Kijimi to New Republic pilot, to Resistance ace, could even be spread over multiple games, as with Katarn's journey in the Jedi Knight series.

8 Kanan Jarrus

Star Wars Rebels Kanan Jarrus faces forward with lightsaber in hand on right with faded image of him wearing mask on left

Kanan Jarrus, or Caleb Dume to use his original name, was a former Jedi Padawan who escaped Order 66 and went on to work with a rebel cell run by Hera Syndulla. Kanan was first seen in Star Wars Rebels before making a cameo in The Bad Batch pilot episode. Fans will already be familiar with his work with the rebels and his eventual death however, not too much is known about his life between Order 66 and the start of Rebels.

Some of Kanan's story was fleshed out in the comic series Kanan which covered how he learned to survive with the help of a smuggler. However, there is a gap of many years when Kanan hid his Force abilities and drifted from planet to planet. A game could fill in this gap nicely and, as Kanan's goal during this period was to remain undetected and blend in, it would need to have some elements of stealth and disguises for players to avoid tipping off the Empire.

7 Asajj Ventress

Asajj Ventress stands with her lightsaber ready.

Asajj Ventress' story is a tragic one and very familiar to fans of The Clone Wars. Born on Dathomir, she was a member of the Nightsisters before being traded to a criminal in order to keep her clan safe. Ventress has been a slave, an unofficial Jedi Padawan, and a Sith assassin.

Ventress' story after The Clone Wars animated series was continued in Christie Golden's novel Dark Disciple, which also saw the Force user meet her end. A good example of a potential Ventress game would be a Soulslike adventure during her time as a Sith apprentice giving players a chance to tap into their dark side. Ventress is such a complex character that a Star Wars game could take place at any point in her rich life and would work well with a few different genres

6 Saw Gerrera

Saw Gerrera in Rogue One And Star Wars The Bad Batch

First appearing in the fifth season of The Clone Wars, Saw Gerrera grew from an idealistic young man fighting for his home world, Onderon, to an almost sociopathic rebel leader who would do 'whatever it takes' to bring down the Empire. It is this level of complexity that makes Gerrera such a brilliant character and perfect for a game devoted to him. Gerrara's story also ties in brilliantly with other Star Wars favorites like Jyn Erso, Cal Kestis, and Ezra Bridger, meaning that any potential game could link to the wider Star Wars story.

From the very beginning of the Empire's rise, Gerrera fought against them, as seen in The Bad Batch, and this leaves lots of territory a game could cover. Players could play as Gerrera himself or even a trusted ally as Gerrera assembles his rebel cell and runs missions. Following Gerrera through his journey as his methods become more extreme would be fascinating to experience.

5 Finn

In a dusty landscape Finn stares out into the distance

Finn got the short end of the stick when it came to character development in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Although hints were dropped that Finn was a Force user, the execution during the movies was such that it was never confirmed in canon. A game could fix this and add much-needed depth to a truly interesting character.

A Finn game could follow his journey after the events of The Rise of Skywalker as he learns to use his abilities. Players could learn through flashbacks about him growing up in the First Order, in a similar way to Cal and Cere’s Clone Wars flashbacks in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. A game could also use abandoned material from The Rise of Skywalker, such as Finn tracking down his long-lost sibling during missions for the Resistance.

4 Fennec Shand

Fennec Shand leans against a wall, sniper rifle at the ready

First seen in season one of The Mandalorian, Fennec Shand is an enigmatic and deadly bounty hunter. Very little is known about Shand in canon other than her formidable skillset that saw her rise to be one of the top assassins in the criminal underworld. Although she now works for Boba Fett, serving as his enforcer and bodyguard, Shand's early life is a mystery to Star Wars fans.

The earliest known appearance of Shand is during the first season of The Bad Batch when she was hired to find Omega, but nothing is known about her before then. A great game idea would be to explore how she went from bounty hunter to top assassin, with flashbacks to show her early life. Gameplay like Hitman or Dishonored would really suit a Fennec Shand game as it would get to show off her skill set as she stalks her targets.

3 Mandalorians

The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 7 Din Djarin and Paz Vizsla

It is a crime that there has not been a Star Wars game focused on Mandalorians. These fascinating warriors have been a part of the Star Wars galaxy for years in movies, books, comics, and games, but they have never had their own Star Wars game. More recently, they have benefited from The Clone Wars series and The Mandalorian, concentrating on and expanding their lore, opening even more avenues for a game to explore.

Mandalorian culture and lore provides rich material for many stories to be told, either from the point of view of a new character or a well-known Mandalorian. The recently deceased Paz Vizsla has ties to canon characters such as Tarre and Pre Vizsla and perhaps Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Shae Vizla. This makes him a great character to open up the world and history of Mandalore to a gaming audience either in an FPS or an RPG.

2 Darth Maul

Darth Maul stands ready to fight with his duel bladed lightsaber ignited

One of the most compelling Star Wars characters is Darth Maul. Maul went from the silent sidekick in The Phantom Menace to the eloquent villain in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. There was once a planned game that would have explored Maul's origin story; however, it was sadly canceled, leaving fans of the dangerous Zabrak wanting more.

A new Maul game would benefit from the trend of soulslike combat, allowing players to fully utilize the Sith Lord’s skills. As the planned Maul game was in development before his return from the dead in The Clone Wars, a new Maul game has more options in terms of setting. Good ideas are either a prequel showing how he became an apprentice, as originally planned, or set during the Clone Wars with Maul and Savage Opress building up their power base with Death Watch on Mandalore.

1 Boba Fett

Boba Fett sits on his throne in full Mandalorian armor.

If there is one Star Wars character who definitely deserves their own game, it’s Boba Fett. Players were robbed of a Boba Fett adventure with the canceled Star Wars 1313, which would have seen Fett exploring Coruscant's seedy underworld. However, all is not lost, as certain elements from Star Wars 1313 could still be revived, such as its setting between the prequel and original trilogies.

A Boba Fett game could explore his time as a famous bounty hunter in an exciting shooter adventure similar to Uncharted. Although not technically a Mandalorian, Fett uses the same technology, gadgets, and armor, setting him apart from other bounty hunters like Cad Bane or Bossk, which would make for unique gameplay. Boba Fett remains one of the most recognizable Star Wars characters whose backstory deserves to be explored more in a Star Wars game.
