Star Wars Celebration will be skipping a year come 2024. The biggest convention for all things Star Wars, European fans will be getting a slice of the action when Celebration lands in London this April. With dozens of celebrities attending, Lucasfilm will pull out all the stops and divulge new details about upcoming Star Wars TV shows, movies, books, and more.

The official Star Wars website has revealed that, following this year's Star Wars Celebration, there will be a brief hiatus for Lucasfilm on the convention circuit. After the event in Europe, the next Star Wars Celebration will not be held until 2025 at an as-yet-undisclosed location. While this is disappointing news, the site attempts to encourage prospective attendees by assuring them they will have "plenty of time to work on your cosplay, refine your Wookiee roar, and sharpen your lightsaber skills."

Star Wars Celebration Will Return In 2025

Star Wars Celebration

Star Wars Celebration 2022 in Anaheim was massive, and the coming event in London promises to be even better. Lucasfilm will reportedly announce its plans for the immediate theatrical future of Star Wars, and there are numerous Disney+ TV shows to be discussed. Ahsoka will be front and center given its anticipated fall release, and attendees may be treated to a surprise from Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni again with the convention taking place in the middle of The Mandalorian season 3's run.

For audiences in the U.S. and other regions around the world, news of a leap year will undoubtedly be disappointing. In addition to the large amount of news to come from Celebration, it will be a longer wait until people can get on the show floor again and meet their favorite Star Wars icons. Last year, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen headlined the event, coinciding with a special premiere of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The iconic duo are set to return in April, when Lucasfilm will commemorate the 30th anniversary of Return of the Jedi.

In some ways, waiting until 2025 is the perfect move for Star Wars Celebration. The year will mark the 20th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, which continues to grow in popularity. Darth Vader merchandise will be out in full force, and any panel dedicated to the film will be packed. The year also marks the 10th anniversary of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a startling reminder of how quickly timed has passed since the film's second teaser blew the roof of the Anaheim Convention Center.

It's a bit early to speculate on what kind of TV news to expect, though continuations of the story kicked off by The Mandalorian are a good bet. With 2025 currently slated as a film year for a Star Wars Christmas release, a panel and trailer for the Damon Lindelof project would go in lockstep with Lucasfilm's previous Celebration strategies. A site for the event will likely be announced at the conclusion of this year's festivities, and Orlando seems to be a strong candidate. The wait will stink, but Star Wars fans are used to it. An extra year of anticipation will only make the event all the more special.
