Star Wars Celebration Anaheim is now officially confirmed to take place in August 2020. In essence, Celebration is Comic-Con for the galaxy far, far away, spotlighting all corners of the beloved franchise with a variety of panels promoting everything from new movies to upcoming novels. The first Celebration was held in 1999 to commemorate the premiere of The Phantom Menace, and the event has been held several times since. Most recently, Celebration took place this past April in Chicago, where there was plenty to get excited about.

In the Windy City, Lucasfilm kicked off the marketing campaign for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, teased what's in store for The Mandalorian, and much more. Shortly after Celebration Chicago, it was announced the next Star Wars Celebration would be in Anaheim during 2020, but fans didn't know when exactly the event would be. Now, those dates have been confirmed, and people can begin making plans.

Today, Lucasfilm announced Celebration Anaheim 2020 will run from August 27-30 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Tickets for the event will go on sale next Friday, June 21. There's obviously no word on specific panels, but the release hints at "major announcements, immersive exhibits, an interactive show floor" and more.

Rian Johnson and The Old Republic

2020 will be an interesting time for the Star Wars franchise, as it will be the first year since 2014 without a new movie to promote. Following The Rise of Skywalker this December, Lucasfilm is putting the movies on ice for a while as they iron out the next phase. They've already secured release dates for a trio of movies in December of 2022, 2024, and 2026. So far, the 2022 film has been revealed as the first in David Benioff & D.B. Weiss' series, but the other two are a mystery. Perhaps Lucasfilm will have a panel dedicated to their future on the big screen, officially announcing upcoming projects. Rian Johnson is still working on a new Star Wars trilogy of his own, and it would be nice to get some clarity on how that's shaping up at some point.

If Lucasfilm decides it's still too early to peel the curtain back on the next wave of films in Anaheim, there will still be plenty of content to spotlight over the four days. Star Wars is making its way to the small screen with multiple live-action TV shows that will air on the Disney+ streaming service. The Mandalorian will already be out by Celebration Anaheim, but there could be a panel detailing the Cassian Andor prequel series, and Disney CEO Bob Iger hinted a third Star Wars show could be in the works. Of course, there should also be new announcements from the studio's gaming and publishing divisions - and it wouldn't be surprising if Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland was integrated into Celebration in some way.
