The Cassian Andor Disney+ series had six weeks of pre-production under its belt before being shutdown. Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) was one of the main characters of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story back in 2016 when Gareth Edwards' film hit theaters. Andor was one of the soldiers who made up Rogue One: a squad created to steal the plans for the Death Star from the Empire.

Since The Mandalorian has obviously been taking the Star Wars spotlight these past few years, there haven't been very many official updates about the Cassian Andor spin-off series. Luna was confirmed to return when the series was announced, but last year it was revealed that Alan Tudyk would return as K-2SO and that deleted characters from Rogue One could make finally make their debut in the Disney+ series. The Rogue One prequel was said to start filming in June, but due to script revisions, the filming start date had to be delayed. Work has since stopped altogether on the Disney+ series because of the Coronavirus pandemic, but it's been revealed that several weeks' worth of pre-production had already taken place.

When speaking with Comic Book Movie, special effects supervisor Neal Scanlan confirmed that the Cassian Andor series had been in pre-production for about six weeks before it had to be shut down due to the growing Coronavirus concern. Despite the UK crew being in lockdown, Scanlan revealed that they are trying to work on the series from home as best they can.

While news on the Cassian Andor series has been a little scarce, Disney has made it clear that they have no plans of letting the Star Wars franchise rest. Marvel's Kevin Feige is developing a Star Wars movie, and despite the fan backlash of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Disney is still moving forward with Rian Johnson's Star Wars trilogy. However, for many fans, the Star Wars TV shows coming to Disney+ are even more exciting. In addition to the Cassian Andor series, Ewan McGregor is finally returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a spin-off series. It's been known for a while that The Mandalorian would return for season 2, but the series has been in the news more than usual lately after it was announced that Rosario Dawson had been cast as Ahsoka Tano.

Recently, the news has been flooded with reports of movies and TV shows getting delayed or production being halted. This has affected Disney just like everyone else, but they will likely make the Cassian Andor series a top priority once the lockdowns have been lifted and the film industry can get back to normal. The Rogue One prequel series was supposed to be available to stream on Disney+ in 2021, which is still possible, but the release date will no doubt be months off from what Disney had originally anticipated. For now, fans will just have to wait patiently until Disney updates fans on the status of the Cassian Andor series.
