The "Matt the Radar Technician" costume, which began in a Saturday Night Live sketch, has finally become Star Wars canon. In January of 2016, Star Wars star Adam Driver hosted Saturday Night Live. In one of the funniest and most memorable sketches of the night, Driver played Kylo Ren in an episode of "Undercover Boss: Star Killer Base." Parodying the reality show Undercover Boss, Kylo Ren disguised himself as the lowly Matt the Radar Technician to learn about the life of an everyday First Order worker and what his employees really think of him.

The sketch was widely praised for showcasing Driver's comedic talents and even sparked a popular meme. More recently, a fan-made mod on Star Wars: Battlefront 2 allowed players to dress Kylo Ren as Matt the Radar Technician. But now, over three years after Matt the Radar Technician's debut, fans were surprised to see the radar technician costume, like the one worn by Adam Driver in SNL, appear in an unlikely place in Star Wars canon: the animated television show Star Wars Resistance.

The trailer for the second and final season of the Star Wars Resistance features two main characters, Neeku and Kaz, wearing uniforms that closely resemble the outfit worn by Matt the Radar Technician: an orange vest with utility pockets over a grey jumpsuit with a First Order logo on the sleeve. Since Neeku and Kaz are both members of the Resistance, they are almost certainly undercover in a First Order base, a common Star Wars trope. While the image only appears on screen for a matter of seconds, fans are already speculating the possibilities.

The inclusion of the SNL jumpsuit is a playful but subtle nod to fans, showing that not only does Star Wars inspire a diverse array of creative content, but that content can also, in turn, influence the people who create the Star Wars universe. As a result, a small part of the outlandish SNL parody has become Star Wars canon.

The second season of Star Wars Resistance, which will air this fall, begins during the events of The Last Jedi and will build towards The Rise of Skywalker. While Kylo Ren is slated to make an appearance in Star Wars Resistance, it's unlikely that Matt the Radar Technician will show up. However, this clever reference to the SNL sketch could be one of many Easter eggs in the upcoming season.
