Introduced in Respawn's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal Kestis is a young Jedi apprentice that survived Order 66. Cal was played by Cameron Monaghan and quickly became a fan-favorite. Despite having only appeared in one title, Cal's story was a refreshing Jedi story.
Of course, he's not the only Jedi to quickly make waves; Star Wars: The Clone Wars introduced audiences to Ahsoka Tano, the apprentice of Anakin Skywalker. Ahsoka has become one of the top-tier Star Wars characters and has appeared in several titles. Both of these young Jedi provide unique stories and perspectives into the Star Wars universe, but who is superior?
Cal: Unique Force Abilities
Typically, new Star Wars games introduce new Force abilities to spice up gameplay. This usually results in that character becoming overpowered. Respawn was careful in their additions, creating more subtle abilities, and Cal Kestis' most unique ability is Force Slow.
Cal can't freeze time, but he can slow an enemy or object down to use against the enemy or dodge it. It's like a refined version of what Kylo Ren did to Poe in The Force Awakens. Cal can also connect to events of the past through echoes of the Force in an object. Cere Junda even states that these are rare abilities to have.
Ahsoka: Resisted The Dark Side
With all she endured during The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, if anybody had the right to succumb to anger, it's Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka was betrayed by the Order that raised her, and she lost thousands of her kind during the Purge. Ahsoka's own master became a revered Sith Lord and galactic tyrant.
Despite all this, Ahsoka remained a Jedi at heart throughout the years. Much like Obi-Wan, all that pain and loss bent her but did not break her. Now as a grown woman, she has more focus. Ahsoka would likely be the ideal Grandmaster for a new Jedi Order.
Cal: Adept With Lightsabers
Cal Kestis was the apprentice of Jaro Topal, a master lightsaber duelist. Cal not only learned how to master a double-bladed saber, but he is able to fight with just one blade. Cal takes on legions of Stormtroopers, bounty hunters, Purge Troopers, and the local fauna.
This is enhanced tenfold when he creates his own lightsaber. This one is a double-bladed saber that can split apart into two lightsabers. This makes three fighting styles that Cal knows how to fight with.
Ahsoka: Survived All Ages
With the jaw-dropping appearance in The Mandalorian, it is now official that Ahsoka is still alive. This makes her the first Jedi thus far to have lived through all three main ages. She was a padawan learner and Knight during the Age Of Republic, and she left the Jedi Order to be a ronin-Jedi during the Age Of Rebellion.
Now in The Mandalorian, she continues to battle injustice near the Age Of Resistance. Where will Ahsoka be going next? Well, fans are hoping for a live-action spin-off to give that answer.
Cal: Family Of Friends
Much like Ahsoka, Cal defies the Jedi Code by letting his emotions guide him but they don't control him. Attachment is not allowed, but that rule goes out the window with the inclusion of the droid BD-1.
Throughout Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the friendship between Cal and BD-1 is one of the cutest relationships in the franchise. It further shows how wrong the Jedi were during the Republic; even the friendship that brews with the crew on the Mantis makes Cal stronger.
Ahsoka: Saved Captain Rex From Order 66
When Order 66 was executed, not only did Ahsoka lose her master and other Jedi, but the Clones she grew to love betrayed her—even one of her best friends: Captain Rex. However, she did not give up; with the help of droid companions, she removed the microchip from Rex's brain.
Rex retained his free will and helped Ahsoka escape the Purge. These actions initiated a chain reaction, as Rex and Ahsoka would both go on to be founding members of the Rebellion. Ahsoka was, in a way, the beginning of the end of the Empire.
Cal: Reconnected With The Force
During the Purge, Cal's connection to the Force was severed. This is why even Cal has trouble with stormtroopers. However, throughout his journey in Fallen Order, Cal regains that connection through flashbacks to his master's training.
Combined with the hard journey, Cal's evolution allows him to become a true Jedi Knight through the Force. Without a master or an order, Cal becomes a Jedi in a similar fashion as Luke Skywalker, but even more on his own.
Ahsoka: Sith Lords Are Her Speciality
Even as a young padawan, Ahsoka demonstrated her skills that only got better over time. Ahsoka took on Asajj Ventress, General Grievous, Darth Maul, and even battled Darth Vader, and she is one of the few Jedi who managed to damage Vader in battle.
Ahsoka also battled Inquisitors, so her resume in battling the Dark Side is impressive. Ahsoka also found a way to reverse the bleeding effect Sith put on Kyber crystals. This is why Ahsoka's lightsabers are white when she's an adult.
Cal: The True Jedi Way
Lightsaber duels are almost always awesome, but Jedi are keepers of peace and not tools of war. Cal embraces the true nature of the Jedi when he makes a friend out of Merrin the last Nightsister. Cal never starts the fights; he's always the one reacting to it or ending it.
Finally, Cal, with the help of Cere, helped a Sith Inquisitor see the error of her ways. Even at the very end, Cal decides to let the Force guide the Force-sensitive children and destroys the Jedi Holocron.
Ahsoka: Saw The Jedi Order's Flaws
After being framed by a rogue Jedi and subjugated by the Order, Ahsoka left. It's a sad moment to see Ahsoka say goodbye to Anakin, but she's right, as the Jedi were not the perfect warriors. Their emotionless state and hubris make them flawed.
Fortunately, this choice to not follow the Jedi Order and code blindly is probably what saved her life. Ahsoka went out on her own and evolved into the vigilante freedom fighter that was seen in Rebels.
