Star Wars special about Boba Fett's history will air on Disney+ this November. Despite having minimal screen time in the original trilogy, the bounty hunter quickly became a fan-favorite Star Wars character, and his popularity has endured for decades. Following Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, the studio attempted to get a Boba Fett spinoff movie off the ground. That project never materialized, but Boba Fett made his live-action return in The Mandalorian season 2, playing a key supporting role in a few episodes.

In lieu of a feature film, Boba Fett is instead going to be the focus of his own TV show. The Mandalorian season 2 post-credits scene served as the announcement for The Book of Boba Fett, a spinoff series arriving on Disney+ this December. The Book of Boba Fett wrapped filming in June, but Lucasfilm has been characteristically mum about official details. Outside of vague promises that it will live up to the hype, not much is known about the show. That could be changing come November, as the bounty hunter will be the center of a new streaming special.

Disney announced a special covering "the origins and legacy" of Boba Fett on November 12, which is Disney+ Day. The program is part of a wide variety of new content from all corners of Disney and their subsidiaries. Disney+ Day will also see the arrival of Shang-Chi on Disney+, a look ahead to Marvel Phase 4, and more.

The Mandalorian Boba Fett Explosion

Based on the description, it sounds like this Boba Fett special could be similar to the line of Marvel Studios Legends programs that premiered on Disney+ throughout this year. Marvel Studios Legends is a series where each short episode explores a particular character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, providing an overview of their history in the franchise. It would make sense to give Boba Fett that treatment ahead of The Book of Boba Fett's debut this holiday season. Newer audiences could get acclimated to the character's past before the spinoff series kicks off, while those who have been following Star Wars for a while can get a quick refresher if they need. It's unknown how long the Boba Fett special will be. The Marvel Studios Legends episodes were brief, with the longest being just 12 minutes. Perhaps that's a suitable ballpark number for Boba Fett.

There was no mention if the Book of Boba Fett trailer will also release on Disney+ Day, but that wouldn't be the most surprising development. The show is slated to premiere in a few months, so Lucasfilm will have to peel back the curtain soon and give audiences a look at what they've been working on. As a comparison, the first Mandalorian season 2 trailer debuted in September 2020, roughly a month before the season premiered on Disney+. So if Lucasfilm waits until November to share the first look at The Book of Boba Fett, they'd be following a similar timeline. It will be interesting to see what happens, but Boba will have plenty of the spotlight soon.
