Boba Fett will fight a new alien nightmare as revealed in a sneak preview from Star Wars. The world of Star Wars has had its fair share of spiders, but fans have never seen them in the galaxy like this before. The War of the Bounty Hunters crossover event is going to have some new treats for readers and new foes for Boba Fett.
Star Wars Bounty Hunters is a comic series published by Marvel Comics. As the name suggests, it focuses predominantly on the galaxy's bounty hunters, including Boba Fett, Bossk, Dengar, and Beilert Valance. These hunters will be at the forefront of Star Wars comics on May 5th, 2021 in a crossover event. The event will span several series, including Star Wars: Bounty Hunters, Star Wars: Doctor Aphra, Star Wars: Darth Vader, and Star Wars. Boba Fett recently made a big comeback in the Star Wars universe. He has been featured in Star Wars comics lately and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.
Star Wars has released a new sneak peek at the concept art for the upcoming War of the Bounty Hunters event. Written by Charles Soule, War of the Bounty Hunters will show the galaxy hunting down Han Solo. New artwork from artist Steve McNiven reveals not just the behind the scenes of comic art creation, but also some new threats for Boba Fett. Featured in the concept art is Boba Fett, a Besalisk, but also an enemy that fans have never seen before. Check out some of the artwork here:
The most notable element of the above images—besides the stunning quality of McNiven's work—is the presence of Boba Fett in action with Han Solo frozen in carbonite—a familiar sight for Star Wars fans. The biggest surprise is the spider-like creature fighting Boba Fett. Spiders aren't anomalies in the Star Wars universe; there have been different species of spiders, including sentient arachnid races, but none like this. Some of the spiders present in the galaxy have been the krykna, which were featured in an episode of the second season of The Mandalorian. They were also in Star Wars Rebels. The Harch are a group of sentient humanoid spiders. The most famous is probably Admiral Trench, who first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and is partially a cyborg. The Harch are typically not cyborg spiders, so that was a trait specifically selected for Trench. Another spider-like appearance in Star Wars is Darth Maul when he appears with robotic replacement legs in The Clone Wars. None have been like the one featured in this sneak peek.
Thus far, it is unknown what this new galactic race is called, though it may have appeared recently in Doctor Aphra #7 and #8 with the character Wen Delphis—leader of the Sixth Kin criminal group. What is known is that this one will be a direct foe to Boba Fett. The main body of this species is very humanoid, with two legs and two arms, however its face is distinctly different from any other Star Wars creature or race that is currently known. While it for sure has two eyes, this particular character also appears to have twelve additional eyes or eye-like orifices along the top of its head, unlike Delphis who has six. Delphis also has an arachnid-like mandible which this character does not have. It has incredibly sharp, terrifying teeth that are sure to give arachnophobic readers some serious nightmares. Attached to this individual is an arachnid-like bulbous thorax, complete with eight super long legs that appear to allow for fast travel and a web-shooting apparatus perched on top. This appears to be a brand new threat that Boba Fett will be facing in Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters.
