The Mandalorians are one of the most popular and intriguing elements of greater Star Wars lore. This proud and ancient race of warriors has grown from a tantalizing mystery in the form of legendary Boba Fett to a complex culture and creed explored in a number of animated and live-action series, including one of the best versions of Star Wars, Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

Mandalorians rank among the most fascinating figures in Star Wars history, each with their own stories and journeys connecting to the greater saga as it unfolds through era after era. It's hard to decide who is the most interesting, but it's fun to try.

Tarre Viszla

Star Wars Tarr Viszla

Very little is known about Tarre Viszla at this point, but chances are, fans are going to find out much more as time goes on. His legend was first outlined in an episode of Star Wars: Rebels. He was the first Mandalorian to be inducted into the ranks of the Jedi Order, which makes him easily one of the coolest Jedi ever.

He also created the Darksaber, a mythical weapon that had been handed down through generations and has been wielded in the Clone Wars, the Galactic Civil War, and the burgeoning conflict brewing in The Mandalorian.

Gar Saxon

All Mandalorians have awesome armor, thanks to it all being based off Boba Fett's iconic costume. Gar Saxon can possibly contend for one of the absolute coolest sets of armors of them all.

As a member of Darth Maul's Shadow Collective, he fashioned his armor in a unique way. He painted in black and red and fixed metal horns to his helmet to mimic his nefarious Sith leader. This gives him one of the most unique and terrifying visages among the entire Mandalorian ranks, though it didn't help him when Ahsoka Tano and the Republic came calling.

Duchess Satine

Duchess Satine Kryze in Clone Wars

While not a Mandalorian warrior in the traditional sense, Duchess Satine Kryze nevertheless is one of the most significant Mandalorians in Star Wars. Her leadership during the Clone Wars sought to bring peace and unity to her people but ended in tragedy.

She died in the arms of her friend and possible lover Obi-Wan Kenobi, a victim of a power struggle that would in some ways is still playing out in the franchise with the Mandalorian people scattered and purged in The Mandalorian.

Pre Vizsla

The Mandalorians had mostly been developed in novels and comic books before the Clone Wars animated series. In some of the show's best episodes, Mandalorian culture and history developed significantly. One of the biggest additions was Pre Viszla. The leader of Death Watch came from a prominent, ancient family, determined to return his people to their roots.

He introduced a lot of new concepts into the franchise, the most important of which might be the Darksaber. This ancient, mysterious blade has now become a thread connecting several series.

Sabine Wren

Sabine Wren is one of the more unique Mandalorians fans have encountered. Many— if not most— of the Mandalorians in Star Wars films, TV shows, novels, and comics tend to minimize their personal identity. She does the exact opposite, using her artistry to leave a personal mark (usually on enemy hardware).

Her journey in Star Wars: Rebels from a young warrior to a leader among her people was compelling, and one fans may see continue now that the Darksaber is part of The Mandalorian.

The Armorer

The Armorer is one of many enigmatic characters on The Mandalorian. So far, fans know very little about this woman who forges armor and weapons from recovered beskar. She displayed skills far beyond metalwork when she took down a squad of Imperial Remnant Stormtroopers by herself.

Judging from the season two trailer, she will remain a significant presence in the titular Mandalorian's life and journey. Perhaps fans will learn more about her background and identity as well.

Bo-Katan

Bo-Katan is the sister of Duchess Satine and a major leader among the Mandalorian people during the divisive period of the Clone Wars (and seemingly after). Bo-Katan initially emerged as a rival to her sister, and even a member of the terrorist organization Death Watch.

She eventually saw the light after Darth Maul took command of the group. She next appeared in Star Wars: Rebels, and played a major role in the final arc of the Clone Wars animated series when she recruited Ahsoka to help her dislodge Maul from power.

Jango Fett

Jango Fett

It's a matter of some debate whether or not Jango Fett, and consequently, Boba Fett, are Mandalorian. They both definitely wear Mandalorian armor, but in an episode of the Clone Wars this exact question came up. Prime Minister Almec claimed Jango Fett was "nothing but a common bounty hunter." That seemed to have solved things. Or did it?

One of the unexplored details of The Mandalorian Disney+ series is the idea that Din Djarin was a foundling. Foundlings are non-Mandalorians adopted into the culture of Mandalore. It remains to be seen whether this process works the opposite way.

Boba Fett

Boba Fett from Star Wars

Boba Fett is literally and figuratively the prototype Mandalorian. His amazing armor and cold determination in the pursuit of Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back now back in the theaters for its 40th anniversary— started the entire Mando train running.

Boba Fett created an entire legend around himself and his people with just a few lines and a few scenes. No disintegrations. He's no good to me dead. Boba started it all, and his story might not be over yet.

The Mandalorian (Din Djarin)

The Mandalorian

Mandalorians have been a major subject of fascination within Star Wars fandom for a long time. Din Djarin gave them a galaxy of more reasons to be fans. The quiet, stoic bounty hunter follows the Mandalorian way strictly, fighting, killing, and to his own surprise, protecting.

His story with The Child is just beginning, and fans know very little at this point— though they have lots of theories. That said, he's easily the most fascinating Mandalorian that fans have yet to encounter, and his story is just beginning.
