Kylo Ren's ascension to the leader of the Knights of Ren has been revealed. In the last issue of Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren, Ben Solo's defining moment which turned him firmly towards the path of the dark side is a bloody affair, as he kills Ren and claims the Knights for himself.

Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren #4 by Charles Soule, Will Sliney, and Guru-eFX has filled in some of the gaps of Ben Solo's transformation into the menacing villain Kylo Ren, one of the main characters in the latest three Star Wars films that closed out the Skywalker Saga. The comic has already filled in numerous details of Ben Solo's Jedi training, his relationship to Ren - the original leader of the Knights of Ren, and his betrayal of his friends. The newest issue explains how Ben became the leader of the Knights.

In the latest issue, Ren, Ben and the Knights are on Minemoon of Mimban hunting an artifact called the Mindsplinter. Solo witnesses his new mentor kill innocent miners despite the assurances he would release them after getting the information they needed. Soon after, two Jedi trainees who were friends with Ben ambush him. As one of his former classmates tries to convince Ben he can still change his mind and come back to the Jedi, Ren snaps his neck with the force. Ren tells Ben that Snoke was wrong about his potential and the two start an intense lightsaber fight - which ends with Ben thrusting a lightsaber through Ren's chest.

Ren's Death

By killing Ren, Ben has a choice. He could return to his path as a Jedi or finish what Ren started. He immediately encounters the other young Jedi, and proclaims that "I'm a murderer, remember?" as he lunges Ren's red lightsaber through her chest. The Knights of Ren see all this unfold and bow down to their new leader. Defeating Ren and killing the Jedi showed the Knights that Ben was the real deal and he now has their undivided loyalty. The comic ends with Ben forming his crossguard lightsaber and accepting his fate as Kylo Ren.

The four-issue miniseries was an interesting, much-needed look into how Ben became Kylo Ren. The elements of tragedy surrounding his classmates, the influence of Snoke, and Ren's distrust of Ben's potential really helped shape him to becoming Kylo Ren. Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren proves Ben really earned the title as the leader of the Knights of Ren.
