Star Wars Battlefront Gameplay Launch Trailer: The War Continues

Before Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens finally reveals what (officially) happened in a galaxy far, far away, after Return of the Jedi, fans will have the opportunity to re-experience classic story moments in the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront. The game puts players on the ground during large scale battles between the Empire and the Rebellion, controlling the unnamed soldiers in the war for the galaxy. The game offers a new perspective on the iconic moments of Star Wars history, as well as allowing for new outcomes and unexpected twists on the established storyline.

The most notable example of these new twists are the inclusion of a variety of hero characters in the matches. Though the multiplayer beta only allowed for Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker to join the battle on Hoth, the final game will include characters like Boba Fett and Princess Leia as well. Each character plays differently, adding a bit of depth to the strategy behind deploying heroes to change the tides of the battle.

In anticipation of Battlefront's upcoming release, publisher EA has released a new launch trailer (above) for the game. Unlike the previous trailer, this one is heavily focused on actual gameplay. Starting on the front lines, the trailer moves from ground combat to the skies, the scenes always punctuated by blaster fire. The video emphasizes the large scope of the levels, with dozens of soldiers battling across Hoth, Tatooine and Endor.

The trailer also shows all of the game's announced heroes in action. Princess Leia and Boba Fett clash unexpectedly on Tatooine, where Fett almost meets his demise at the Sarlaac pit. However, at the last moment, he uses his jetpack to escape, spouting off "that won't happen again" before flying away. The trailer is full of great nods for Star Wars fans - from the snowspeeder taking down at AT-AT using its tow cables to Han Solo boldly facing Darth Vader.

Battlefront's beta was a resounding success, with millions of players logging on to try out either Drop Zone or the massive Walker Assault. Considering the numbers, along with the sheer power of the Star Wars license, the actual game is most likely going to be a big hit during the 2015 fall/winter holiday season.

While there won't be a single player campaign in Battlefront, there will be different multiplayer modes suited to player's particular tastes. There are nine different modes across twelve maps, with additional maps already scheduled to release come December. The new trailer assures that there will be enough content available to warrant the full price of the game. Seeing the variety of locales and characters in action comes as a relief, as it is clear that the developers invested on capturing the details that make the Star Wars franchise so captivating.

Star Wars Battlefront releases for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 17th, 2015.
