The end of 2015 is looking like it'll be a very promising time for Star Wars fans - not to mention, a time that will create a whole new generation of Star Wars fans. J.J. Abrams' incredibly anticipated movie, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens will open in theaters this December; however, a month before the next chapter of the Star Wars universe unfolds on the big screen, Star Wars: Battlefront III will give players the chance to take part in the enormous war between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire.
Given the fun and addictive gameplay of the previous Battlefront games and the anticipation surrounding the next Star Wars movie, there's an understandable amount of hype and excitement for the upcoming video game. Well, EA and DICE have now announced that the game's beta will arrive in "early" October, and it'll provide three different modes and the chance to play as two of the most iconic characters in the franchise's history.
Included in the beta will be the following special features:
- "Walker Assault on Hoth", a 40-player battle between Rebels and the Empire on the ice planet that debuted in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. This 20 vs. 20 player war zone will give gamers the chance to control Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader - which was seen in a previous Battlefront gameplay trailer.
- "Survival Mission on Tatooine", which places two players as Rebels who must survive against waves of Imperial troops on the desert planet that has part of the Star Wars franchise since it began.
- A new mode called "Drop Zone", but no additional information has been released on that feature just yet (though EA promises an announcement in the forthcoming weeks).
20 vs. 20 players on Hoth, with AT-ATs, Y-wings (the Rebel bombers can be called in to damage Imperial Walkers), Snowspeeders, and Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader running around is sure to keep players busy until the full Star Wars Battlefront game releases; that is, assuming the gameplay is as solid as the previous installments, of course. Throw in a cooperative mode that allows you and a friend to take on waves of enemies, and yet another mode - one can only assume what "Drop Zone" is; an infiltration/defend mode, perhaps? - and this looks like it could be a very satisfying beta.
Fingers crossed, the Star Wars Battlefront beta elements will only get players even more excited for the game's release in November. Gamers who pre-order the game will also get a chance to take part in the Battle of Jakku a week earlier than everyone else. The downloadable content (DLC) will reveal the story behind the downed Star Destroyer and X-wing that were seen in the Force Awakens trailer.
Star Wars Battlefront III will be available on November 17, 2015, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
